Slidll to Chicago in the ice storm a few years ago. Was expecting 12 hours, took 21 over 2 days. Was making good time til Tennessee, where there was a couple inches of ice on the road with two wheel ruts down the lane. Traffic was creeping for hours - you could just idle and let go of the wheel and the car would stay in the ice ruts. Yet while cars were doing 5-15 mph in the ice ruts in the right lane, 18 wheelers were doing 50+ in the left lane. Jack-knifed 18 wheelers all over the place. Traffic came to a stop for a couple hours and we thought we’d have to sleep on the interstate. Eventually was able to get off and find a Motel 6, where they had to shovel away a foot and a half of snow just to open the door to our room. The rest of the way was easy the next day once we hit the areas where they were used to icy conditions. Wife wanted to trun back in Tenn. but no way was I turning around. Awesome vacation and our most memorable road trip,

Awesome drive, although part of 95 can be dreadful.

When I was in college I had a summer internship in Houston, but buddies had them in L.A. and, Jacksonville.

Just after internships end, buddy in L.A. calls me. His car broke down. He is just going to leave it in L.A. to be impounded and fly home. I offer to go pick him up, so I drove to LA to pick him up. We then decide to skip through Baton Rouge and drive to Jacksonville to see our other friend, mostly so we can say we drove coast to coast.

So longest road trio I ever took was i-10 from Houston to LA then from LA to Jacksonville.

It's awesome, but you will have to put your rig on a ferry (can't remember the name) when you get to the Isthmus of Panama.

Longest continuous in the car trip is either Atlanta to Dallas or Victoria, Texas to Atlanta.

Longest round trip (over about 2 weeks) was Atlanta --> Paducah, Kentucky --> Lincoln, Nebraska --> Cheyenne, Wyoming --> Laramie, Wyoming --> Ft. Collins, Colorado --> Rocky Mountain National Park --> Boulder, Colorado --> Denver --> Bryce Canyon, Utah --> Las Vegas --> Williams, Arizona --> Grand Canyon --> Memphis --> Birmingham --> Atlanta.
