What is the Cultural Identity of the 2000s? The 2010s? Do They Have One?

The 60s are known for counter-culture contrasted with Vietnam.
The 70s had disco and polyester.
The 80s saw a resurgence of consumerism that exists today.
The 90s had grunge and the dawn of the internet.
What is the identity of the 2000s and 2010s? To me it seems they blend together across politics, fashion, and ideals.
Maybe this is because the GWOT spanned both decades?

2000's was dominated by the smartphone and all of it's accessories
2010's is probably when social media really got into full swing
Across both decades, I feel like the boundaries of the political spectrum started being pushed/stretched.
As it pertains to fashion, I don't know that we'll see certain trends dominate the decade like they used to. No one really cares what people wear anymore.

Tech boom? You could argue that our lives have changed more from 2000-today than they did from 1950-2000.

eta: 2000s pants and clothes in general were very baggy. skinny jeans and tapered pants became fashionable in the 2010s, and now in the 2020s, it's going back to more baggy and not tapered.

2000s- 9/11 and Iraq
2010s- smartphones
Fashion and decor has changed very little since the early 2000s. The only thing that dates TV/movies from that time are the cellphones and whether or not it's in HD

I would say 2000s was the dawn of the internet, dot com bubble, baggy clothes, ipods, napster, super sized fast food meals, 9/11, housing crisis/stock market crash and Spongebob, 2 LSU football nattys/2 baseball natty, saints SB...i dont think the iphone really took hold until the 2010s even though it was released in 2007

I agree with this. Tech has come a long way in the last 20 years. Esp in medical advancement. I would have probably died from what I have back in like 95’.

2000s is probably dominated by the flourishing of the internet, America going back to war and security state. Economic collapse.
2010s is the hard one I think, it's more or less just a continuation.
2020s - off the rails

I think the Internet has a lot to do with the plateau of cultural trends due to its nature to represent the current in perpetuity. Much of the 50s-00s were influenced by marketing, often reflecting society's attitudes, interests, and identities. Honestly, Mad Men is probably the best documentary on it. Fifth Avenue was able to codify everything and sell it leading to homogenized representations of people, typically the youth.
Nowadays, there are too many sources of influence to coordinate a singular representation of an era. We're just continuing on with social media as reality, a hyperreality, and our cultural flare is rather lame.
