Just about every sport today cost a lot of money. Between registration, travel, equipment, training everything adds up. What is the cheapest sport you can think of?

Gotta be football since there are not any (for the most part) travel teams.

Baseball, cheer, dancing, basketball, golf, racing, and so on

Get your kid into a sport you already enjoy as a hobby. Preferably an individual sport like golf or tournament fishing. You won’t spend much more than you already do.

Team sports are a joke in 2026.

If you already have a golf membership, most private clubs include the children under 18 in the membership for free.

By middle school if he/she plays on the team the golf is free.

You have to buy equipment obviously. Certainly can get pricey depending on how you go about it but in high school living with my mom we were on a very limited budget and we made it work. I didn't have all the newest equipment and never had a lesson and I still whooped peoples arse on the course. Just need the talent.

Tennis, if you have access to a school court. Can volley w the kiddos yourself. See if they enjoy it. Maybe a professional lesson a week for an hour.
