I ordered a refrigerator & microwave from one of the big box stores’ websites when I bought my first house. They delivered and installed them, and all was well. It was around $1800 total. A few days later, I noticed a credit on my credit card for like $1799 (not exact amounts, but the full price less $1). I waited a week to see if it would resolve and they’d recharge my card. When they didn’t, I called. The rep kept saying, “are you sure? I don’t see any credit to your account.” She told me she’d have a supervisor look into it and call me back. After another week with no word, I called again and explained it to someone else. She also insisted there was no credit, and that she’d have someone call me back. I gave up after that. I couldn’t make them take my money.

That was over 10 years ago, and they never caught their error. I got a refrigerator & microwave for $1.

Free battery from auto zone a few months ago because they lost the ticket for the battery I'd left the night before for recharging.

Not really a mistake, more like stupidity on Amazon for shipping a large item through the postal service last fall. We got a new bed, and instead of a king mattress, we ordered a pair of the Twin XL memory foam mattresses. It was supposed to be delivered on a Saturday. They left a notice on the door. I tried the website, but it was horrible, then called the number. The guy was pretty friendly and said that larger packages, especially in the fall leading up to Christmas, will come on a separate package truck, not the normal mail carrier. He rescheduled the delivery for me. That day came and went, tried calling again but couldn't get through. Contacted Amazon, they said if it hasn't been delivered after a few days, contact them again and they would send replacements.

So a week goes by, I contact Amazon through the online chat, asked the rep if they could send it in one of the Amazon vans, or through FedEx/UPS instead of the mail, and told them what happened. They send the replacements through the mail again. Idiots. So another week goes by, I get another notice, and this time they checked the box to come pick it up at the sorting/distribution center. I drive over the next day, show them my slip, and the nice lady just asks what they are, and my last name. I tell her mattresses and my name, and she comes back about 10 minutes later with all 4 of them. I told her I was just picking up the replacements, and she said we're not sending them back, they're yours. I wasn't planning on getting new mattresses for my boys yet, but they're free and will fit on their bunk beds.

Two more that happened to me.

Made a $1000 purchase in college once on my debit card and they never took the money out of my account, that was awesome.

Buying a washer/dryer set from Sears and the salesman was convinced I could buy two different brands and they would stack even though I told him clearly it looked like they wouldn’t. So I bought the different brands to save like $500, of course they didn’t stack so I had to call and have them exchange the dryer for the correct one. They tried to charge me the $500 difference, I explained the situation that the salesman screwed up not me and they still wanted to charge me. I told them they can either give me the more expensive one for the price of the cheap one or I’m returning the whole purchase and buying it from Home Depot. They sent me the more expensive one for the cheaper price...

An example of this not working is an ATT salesman once promised me a price that was $30 cheaper than what it was listed at or said on my account. I told her that price was wrong and she was adamant that some unseen discount would come into play when I confirmed the plan so I did it. After 1 month that discount went away and I called to get it handled. I spent 3+ hours on the phone telling them what happened and how it was 100% that salesman’s fault for misquoting and I was demanding the lower price. They all agreed but said they couldn’t change my price (and I had already bought discounted phones for the plan so if I cancelled it I would be on the hook for the full price of those). I was pissed and said I was going to cancel the plan, buy the phones, and switch to Verizon if they didn’t give me the better price. They just said okay do that if you wanted cannot change your price even if we wanted to, totally called my bluff
So now I have a cell phone plan that is $30 more per month than I wanted

Lafayette General forgot to bill my insurance for the birth of my first kid. Apparently you have to bill the insurance within a certain time period and by the time they realized the mistake they were beyond that window. They tried to bill me for the whole thing and I called their bluff. They owned up to the mistake and I wasn’t billed a penny for the birth.

At a very nice steak house in Chicago a waitress spilled my martini on my back, all down my shirt. I was so drunk with my friends I kind of laughed it off and it was clear so it's not like it stained.

Manager comped ALL of my meal. At least 5-6 drinks, dry-aged bone-in ribeye, sides, etc. Had to have been a $250 comp. I still tipped the waitress very well and laughed and said I'll come back every week for the same deal if she wanted to keep spilling drinks on me.

Years ago I got a paycheck with 8 extra hours I did not work on it. I tried to do the right thing and let them know and the following week I could see on the stub where they tried subtract 8 hours but somehow it added yet another 8 hours I didn't work again. I decided screw it the second time, I just kept my mouth shut and enjoyed the extra 16 hours pay, which wasn't a whole lot really

A Barbour jacket from Orvis. Sales associate accidentally switched our pick up orders which had been paid. I ended up with a $450 Barbour jacket (fit was perfect) and he ended up with a $100 snap pullover.

The day before Christmas.

Ordered a set of harnesses for my SxS. Box came with 4 sets of harnesses, 6 atv sprockets, and an electric power steering kit. Instead of being an a-hole, I called and told them their error. Sent extra stuff back and they gave me a 500 dollar credit for my honesty

Secretary bought two portable A/C's for their garage, but cancelled them b/c she found them cheaper at a different place.

They arrived and she called and said she cancelled them, but they said to keep them b/c it was too expensive to send back

Transferred school districts one year at the beginning of the year. The original place I was at gave me my 10 vacation days for the year and then when I transferred the new district gave me 10 more. I did not bring it to anyone's attention or complain.

$200 meal isn’t fancy at all. That’s what we all should expect to pay at Texas Roadhouse in this hyperinflation environment

not technically a FREEBIE but a nice mistake...was at a Mexican restaurant with a buddy last night when we noticed a bottle of Macallan 18 ($300+ bottle of scotch) we asked how much for a pour, and after having a gathering of everyone that worked there, the guy said $11.....I paid more for the damn taco plate than a pour of crazy expensive scotch

Several years ago in the months leading up to Christmas, my wife ordered our son an Apple iPod from Best buy. This was the same Christmas that the PS3 was coming out. I was tracking the order and the day before the iPod was to come in, we got a very large box from Best buy. The wife hid it from our son and when.i got home I opened it. It was a PS3 bundle. The next day the iPod showed up. We assumed they would catch the mistaske, but we never heard a word from Best buy. My kid had an awesome Christmas that year.
