Charleston is great. Great historical city with a lot to do and also has some good saltwater fishing. It's in te top 3 places we'd live. Austin is very cool but it's got that Colorado hippy feel which could be a problem for some people. Lived in Atlanta for 12 yrs and there's tons of stuff to do there...great music, professional sports, etc and if you live between buck head and Alpharetta it's very nice. Plenty of opportunities to make good money too. One thing we miss after coming back to BR is the opportunity to fly direct just about anywhere we want.

After my wife gets out of school we're considering Portland, Seattle, Denver, and DC. Maybe a few other places too, but those are on the top of our list. If you look at lists of best places to live, those are usually up there. We currently live in New Orleans and love it, but don't really see it as somewhere that we'll stay.

Coming from LA, I wouldn't move to NYC unless you lined up an OT baller job at a big firm making $100k+ right out of school. Anything less and you're lower middle class. Not only that but you'll get taxed out the wazoo no matter what income you have in NYC. NYC actually has it's own income tax. Between the wife and I we are paying close to $300/month just in NYC personal income tax. Also forget about buying property- most reasonable condos/houses start at 400k, and have property taxes that start around 10k/year. The math doesn't add up.

Where are you finding a decent condo for 400k? Harlem? I looked at a decent 700 sq ft 1 bed on the upper west side last weekend, price tag- $950k

But you get props for even knowing it exists.

I feel like Austin is at the tipping point in terms of new people moving in.

London if you can afford it. Paris if you speak French. Munich if you're into the German thing.

Again, I don't have any limitations except it has to be warmish weather year around. That's really it for my job.

So why wouldn't you live in Hawaii or San Diego then?

ETA: The people saying SF have never lived there

Place is freezing for a lot of the year. Unless you go to East Bay/Marin..

San Diego is a possibility I just don't know if I want to be that far away from my family

Seattle Wa. Lots of Corporate jobs, i.e Microsoft, Amazon, Nintendo, Starbucks Headquarters, and DeLoitte. Nice paying jobs out of school. Cost of living is a little high, but 100K/40hr week is not uncommon out of school. Already have a job set up with Amazon when I finish school.

Austin is a great city for younger people although cost of living blows due to high demand. Houston and Dallas are great for the professional side but do not have the great night life of Austin. Miami or San Diego would be sick with the beaches and women. Scottsdale/Tempe/Phoenix would be a solid option too for great year round weather, golf, and fine ASU tail.
