I have visited NOLA a couple of times and enjoyed myself, but I cannot see anything which would make me ever consider living there.

Also, based on comments on this and the poli board, BR seems like a shithole of culcha and bad government.

What is the appeal for an upper middle class person?

No other redeeming qualities

Best thing is you never have to say NOLA or Red Stick.

Government doesn’t bother me. I love spots if NOLA and could live near there. BR. I am not as sure.

Well, I have to be here weekdays if I want my paycheck, and that’s a huge plus.

Also what theunknownknight posted.

It’s weird. BR absolutely sucks, but I miss it with a passion. If it were up to me I’d move back in a heartbeat.

Not much. People tend to stick around for family and familiarity. But you’ll get a lot of “food and hunting and fishing” answers.

To be fair though, if you’re living in Alabama posting this, it’s kind of a “throwing stones in glass houses” situation.

You can say this about much of America, its about family and friends. Picking up your family and moving away from your family especially with kids is tough. It seems many who shite on those who live in NOLA or br or any part of Louisiana doesn't have kids. Having no help from.family with kids is very tough.

Both of them have two words in their names.

That’s better than Bunkie or Erath or Bush.

My wife was born and raised two blocks off St Charles avenue and she misses it every damn day. I don't get it, but it is what it is. As far as Baton Rouge, I could live there if I never ventured more than a quarter mile from LSU. Otherwise, hard pass.

ETA Actually I guess I do understand. Living in the uptown bubble, especially near the universities, wouldn't be half bad if you had the financial wherewithal to insulate yourself from the riff raff completely, and your personal economic fortunes weren't tied to the success or failure of the city.

I do not live in AL.
However, there are parts of AL which are very nice. The same can be said for LA. I’m simply inquiring about 2 prominent cities.

To your point...Birmingham (city) and MontGumpery are shittholes.

Because it’s home and/or is close enough to home for someone to make a good living. That’s usually good enough for people from the south.

Not really a hard answer.

The negatives of both cities are magnified on here considering TD is a Louisiana-centric web board and people love to complain on the internet.

I loved living in New Orleans. Magazine and st Charles. It’s just a big city with a different type of people living in it. I hated living in Baton Rouge except being close to home after football games.
