A tour guide in Sitka told our group a few years ago someone once just bailed on their cruise and decided to immediately set up shop there. Now, that's balls.

I don't know about "starting over" but I know a few ~60 year olds who sort of had a career and now they work a shitty, low paying job.

I worked for a company that went under in 2009.

Had to do something, until I found a good job, so I worked a tememarketing job for a little while (yeah, it sucked, but I'm good at it, and it beats the frick out of collecting unemployment). I met a guy there who was in his 60's, that had his identity stolen, and lost his entire retirement savings (hundreds of thousands). The really shitty part of it all was the fact that he had some pretty nasty health issues, and they were not the type that were due to lifestyle choices.

There are certain parts of my job I absolutely loathe.

My youngest nephew is a year and a half from graduating so no more tuition

I have no kids, could sell the house

but to do what exactly ?

One of my uncles(?) a few generations removed got caught taking the adult diaper off some old brawd at his nursing home. He just wanted a nut.

Recently I had a frick this kind of moment. Bought a bunch of land and house in the WNC mountains and never looked back. Going back to school starting in January. Best decision I ever made.

I see it fairly often. People come here and just don't leave.
