I have a very good friend that graduated from UL. Parents bought him a three moth trip on the Yukon River as a graduation present. He went, fell in love with AK and now works as a wildlife biologist in Denali NP. Never even came back to get his stuff

To answer your question, I know two guys who each started over around their late 30's to 40. One had a wife and 3 kids and the other was engaged so the pressure was different but each are millionaires now though one is substantially more wealthy than the other. They are not connected at all BTW other than I know them each.

I'm 74 and going through a nasty divorce from wife of two years. Moved from a four bedroom house to an apartment. Really enjoying myself.

that makes me feel better
i do a decent amount of criminal law and my clients' situations are an eye opener in that regard.
on those really bad days i just have to go through the checklist
"no matter what, i don't have a felony conviction on my record"
"no matter what, i have no criminal record"
"no matter what, i have a college degree and a postgraduate degree"

I'm not sure of your age but, if you're considering making a move, the scariest part is getting there. For me, it turned out to be the greatest thing for me. I was fortunate enough to make a ton of money relatively early in my professional life and that obviously helped. You don't have to have money to do it though. Just be willing to make sacrifices and go without things you may have become accustomed to.

I have a few. Both first-hand experience and people I know. It comes with the industry I chose I guess because it's a roller coaster. I still roll the dice but I try not to be so cavalier about it like I was years ago. Experience has changed that.
I thought I wanted that when I was down, and like you I think about it, but then I realize I wouldn't last and I like not having a ceiling. Plus, with what I do, the challenge is never ending now vs the monotony of doing the same thing every day. I would probably go postal if I had that sort of structure.

it's almost intriguing to take a year off my life to rough it and see just what i can do without
i just feel that at 32 i'm too old for this silliness and i should have done that at 25

I did this at 38 when I got divorced. Spent a couple of months in South America and New Zealand, and a winter as a sled dog handler for an iditarod team.
