I remember our talks. You don't know how much you helped me during those days. Seriously, I really, really appreciated them. You didn't know me from a hole in the ground and took the time to help me process things in the industry. You're good people, stout.

Man, I didn't do that much but I appreciate the compliment. I was busy here dealing with Rita work or else I would have done a lot more.
BTW, don't let people here know that I am not truly a dick IRL and just play one on the internet. It might disappoint them.

Damn, Vette, that's very kind.
I don't often feel like a winner or feel very strong. Nothing special. I honestly believe had you all been dealt some of the same hand, you'd manage it just as well. Probably better.
I look back on bad decisions and missed opportunities... there were choices I could have made that would be better than some I made that could have a material positive affect on where we are now.
That being said, I do recognize I could have made poorer decisions too. In the edn, I'm blessed with a great family and great friends.

i've thought about this a lot lately
it's almost intriguing to take a year off my life to rough it and see just what i can do without
i just feel that at 32 i'm too old for this silliness and i should have done that at 25
I've been living that life for about 3 years now and I'm 37 years old. There are times when I wish I'd done it when I was younger. At the same time I think if I'd done it when I was younger my mind wouldn't have been as open and I would have felt some pressure to get back to what people consider "real life" and plant roots. Since I am older I have a bit more perspective to realize this is my "real life."
That feeling of "I'm too old" is just the pressure of culture telling you what you should be doing. That's the real silliness. You probably won't find much happiness in this type of lifestyle unless you're willing to totally abandon the expectations of culture.

Know a guy who is 60, successful home builder. Has a weakness for women, and has been married 7 times. Has lost most of his money due to divorce.
So weird to think of my 25 yr old self getting home from work and working in yard or on some fence or deck project. Such a 'life' ago.
