They found that indeed, cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome (CHS)—which can include a symptom colloquially called “scromiting,” a portmanteau of “screaming” and “vomiting”—seemed to be on the rise in emergency departments nationwide.
This sounds like such bullshite. I have never heard of someone getting a reaction from weed. Maybe one guy out of million had some kind of adverse reaction. Meanwhile the ER’s are stuffed everyday with people who drank to much, got into fights, got into car accidents, fell down drunk and hurt themselves.
But “Muh weed” is dangerous.

It already started two posts above.

That isn’t to downplay alcohol related issues.
It is just to point out that your feelings about marijuana are irrelevant and cannabis hyperemesis is increasing in prevalence.
quote:
According to an analysis of data from the University of Illinois in Chicago, the prevalence of CHS increased more than fivefold, from 4.4 reports per 100,000 ED visits in 2016 to 22.3 per 100,000 in 2022. One study has estimated that approximately 2.75 million people in the United States have been affected.
quote:
Research suggests that the syndrome is rising fastest among adults ages 18 to 34. And it is increasingly being reported in adolescents. Researchers saw a nearly 50% spike in CHS-related ED visits among people ages 13 to 21 between 2016 and 2023, data show.

According to a survey of more than 1,000 people who reported experiencing CHS symptoms, 85% reported at least one emergency department visit and 44% had at least one hospitalization.

People who smoke marijuana have such an insane mindset that there can be no associated issues with it.
It is the wonder drug!
It is the craziest fricking thing.

Long-Term Growth: A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report shows that ED visits for conditions caused exclusively by alcohol use (such as alcohol abuse and alcoholic liver disease) rose 101% for males (from about 2 million to nearly 4 million visits) and 96% for females (from 701,000 to 1.4 million visits).Visit Rates: The population rate for alcohol-specific ED visits grew from 71 to 124 per 10,000 males, and from 24 to 41 per 10,000 females.Substance Comparison: Between 2021 and 2023, alcohol remained the most common substance involved in substance-related ED visits, surpassing both opioids and cannabis

I think most are simply arguing their intoxicant of choice is no worse, and is in fact not as harmful, as many other intoxicants. They don’t want to see a return to ruining people’s lives and locking people up for consuming a plant.

What’s your point? Did I not say that I am not downplaying alcohol related issues.
I work in a pediatric ER.
I see magnitudes more cannabis-related issues, like CHS, than alcohol.
It is easy for teens to get THC vape pens and MJ.
The only time I see alcohol-related issues are around holidays or things like prom.

Implied it is more prevalent than alcohol. It isn’t. Tell me doc, how many people died due to alcohol consumption vs weed?

quote:Trends in Substance-Related Visits Among Youth to US Children’s Hospitals, 2016–2021: An Analysis of the Pediatric Health Information System Database
There were 106,793 substance-related visits involving 84,632 youth. From 2016 to 2021, substance-related visits increased by 47.9% and increased across all ages, demographics, regions, and payors. Visits of Hispanic youth experienced the greatest percentage growth (63.3%, p<0.05) when compared to Non-Hispanic White (46.2%) or Non-Hispanic Black (49.8%) youth. All substances except sedatives experienced an increase in growth in visits. Cannabis accounted for the largest percentage of visits (52.2%) and experienced the greatest percentage growth during the study period (82.4%, p<.001). During the pandemic, publicly insured, female, Non-Hispanic Black, and Hispanic youth experienced a greater-than-predicted number of substance-related visits.

You changed the subject to youth, the person you were replying to was about adults. Kids don’t drink anymore. They saw how it has wrecked our society, in part at least due to the defense of it by people like you. You drunks will say anything to take the focus off your drug of choice.

I repeatedly stated that I deal in pediatric medicine.
In my field of practice, it is increasing.
It is also increasing in adults.
You probably wouldn’t misread my posts if you weren’t high.

Ok, let’s do that.
My stance: Cannabis-related medical visits are increasing. Cannabis hyperemesis syndrome is increasing in both pediatrics and adults. Hospital admissions and visits are rising secondary to this.
Your stance: Alcohol causes problems too.
Ok, and…
