So your sample set and perception is skewed from the jump. Some kid came in because he ate gummies like they were candies and is basically hyperventilating leads you to conclude weed is dangerous? It’s in no way comparable to alcohol….not even close.

This sounds like such bullshite. I have never heard of someone getting a reaction from weed. Maybe one guy out of million had some kind of adverse reaction. Meanwhile the ER’s are stuffed everyday with people who drank to much, got into fights, got into car accidents, fell down drunk and hurt themselves. But “Muh weed” is dangerous.
It is definitely a real thing. Marijuana in dispensaries is incredibly potent, many times more than years ago. Then you add pens people can puff on all day or 100mg edibles and there’s plenty of young people over consuming. It doesn’t mean alcohol is safer than marijuana, just means they both have bad side effects if used not in moderation.

ETA: it seems to definitely be more common in young people than middle-age or older adults. Not sure if the potency is too strong for someone building a tolerance or if there is another reason.

My argument is that cannabis-hyperemesis syndrome is becoming an increasing problem.

This is a side effect of MJ use, like the side effects of alcohol use.

The issue is the high amount of THC content, the high ratio of THC to CBD in modern MJ, or a combination of the two.

We should determine the exact reason for this and recognize that it is becoming a problem.

Also, just as an aside, MJ ingestion by young kids (the issue with CHS is primarily adolescents) can cause seizures and respiratory failure, not just hyperventilation.

Who is saying that it is?

In the grand scheme, alcohol use and side effects are much worse.

We all know that. That has been drilled into society for >100 years.

That does not negate the fact that current MJ strains are causing significant problems.

Not sure why people have such a hard time grasping that.

Blah Blah Blah

What is your point? You are supposed to be of legal age to consume in a legal state. I assume all of your subject patients are children who shouldn’t be doing it to begin with. If I go buy a 5th of whiskey and consume it daily I am going to have adverse health effects.
Don’t smoke or don’t consume as much if you can’t hold your mud. It’s just that simple. Marijuana isn’t toxic in and of itself.

You are right.

We should never discuss the negative side effects of things.

That’s fine…it’s not for everyone nor should everyone use it. Children aren’t supposed to be using it even in state where it’s legal.

Alcohol is everywhere. Prescription drugs are over prescribed. Our food is processed and is killing us. Fast food is poison. Weed should be controlled and regulated as well. It shouldn’t be available to minors and I would be fine with stringent regulations on gummies because that’s where the problems occur.

We don’t live in a nanny state and I don’t like further criminalization to support the criminal justice industrial complex and the alcohol lobby. Millions of people use cannabis and probably more use it now than are consuming alcohol…..so I would bet that the problems associated with weed are minuscule relative to others. Your perspective is skewed because you see a tiny subset and you’re extrapolating that there is some major problem when there really isn’t.

This happened to my cousin. She was vomiting constantly for like 4 months.

Modern marijuana THC content is upwards of 3 times on average compared to what it was just 20 years ago.

I don’t know what it was 20 years ago but I try to recreationally purchase cannabis that is 25% or higher THC content, living in Oregon.

You should ask your patients the names of the strains that wrecked their worlds and let us know what they are.

For research, of course.

Dunno have a hard time believing it but what do I know. I quit smoking weed years ago and haven’t been around people that smoked much of it in a long time either but just seems hard to believe someone would end up at the ER over THC.
