What is it with young kids now having so many “anxiety” issues?

Why is it that so many young people in their teens & 20s now have “anxiety” to the point it requires professional help?
Is the world really that stressful now? I mean, when I was that age we lived in a world where we lived under the constant threat of nuclear Armageddon. But you didn’t see people unable to function because of “anxiety” What’s changed?

Soft arse parents produce soft arse kids.

They don’t really have anxiety. They’ve just been conditioned by society to believe hardship or adversity is some sort of medical condition. It’s not their fault. It’s the previous generations fault.

Over exposure to information, particularly false information. Climate change comes to mind, as does Trump Derangement Syndrome. The media, academia, and pop culture are scaring the Hell out of kids who simply don't know how to cope.

Two words: SOCIAL MEDIA. Always comparing themselves to others

This, plus a need for attention

Are you implying the earth is not warming?
I don't know if it's more of a natural cylce or human intervention, but a thermometer will tell you it's getting hotter.

Not enough mud checkin' these days. People are too sensitive.

It’s the fricking water. Ask Alex Jones. The fluoride has turned us into big vaginas.

Can you people not google? Or do you just want answers from a bunch of uneducated assholes who will say the worst about the kids and their parents?

The progressive movement. Way too much manufactured bullhonkie shizzy stress out the poor yuts and causes them to buy bunches of fidget spinners.

Its just an excuse to get xanax.

Don’t get anxious about people talking about anxiety Laige

Doctors don’t prescribe Xanax for young people with anxiety

I'm sure people have legitimate issues with it but the number of people that claim they have anxiety attacks is laughable. It cheapens the struggle for people that have actual problems with it.

So it’s worrying about global warming that’s causing this? That doesn’t make any sense to me though. Gen X (my generation) grew up not thinking the world might end in a few generations, but could possibly end on any given day at any given moment. So I’m not buying the “world might end soon” excuse being responsible for the spike in anxiety with young people.

There's the "everybody gets a trophy" mentality but I think it goes deeper than that. We've conditioned kids to think they never have to experience any negative feelings at all. They'll have anxiety about taking a test, but instead of studying harder their parents tell the teacher they have "test anxiety," and need special treatment. I've worked in education and seen it firsthand. Some kid will claim to have test anxiety so they get a multiple choice test while everyone else has fill in the blank.
It's more widespread now because it wasn't nipped in the bud. If teachers told these kids to study harder or just deal with getting a bad grade, it wouldn't have spread.
