There is no casually being into horse ownership.

What is it about these animals that makes people so infatuated?

I genuinely would like to understand.

Yeah you can’t really casually own an animal that big.

I've never known a sane woman that owned a horse.

A wise man once said that horse girls are just crazy cat ladies with money

It becomes an illness

I’d rather spend money on my horses than myself

When you tell women in a bar that you have horses, their panties start to slip down. When you take out your phone and show them pictures of you and you horses, their panties fall right off.

They’re large animals that require much more maintenance to keep them in “performance shape”. Most livestock are not maintained in “performance shape” like riding horses. They take a lot of work to keep in shape, so you have to be dedicated or pay enough for someone else to be dedicated to caring for them

My house backs up to a horse farm. I saw a guy walking in the field while I was in the yard working and I was talking to him. His daughter is an Equestrian. He said "the only people making money on horses are racehorse owners and people who own boarding farms".

I'd guess that, like dogs and cats, thousands of years of cohabitation have led to some ingrained preferences for them.

Had horses growing up. Alot of our life was catered to those things. Mornings, weekends, evenings we were either feeding, brushing, riding, training, etc. Had alot of fun and it taught work ethic, responsibility, persistence and dedication. Horses can have a very soothing and therapeutic effect. Its a very powerful animal but they can have a puppy-like personality and grow attached to their humans just like dogs and my dad had an emotional attachment to his horses as if they were people. He was a tough man but those horses were a soft spot for sure.

That being said, they are a ton of work and money. He got rid of them once we all were out of the house as it was too much for him to handle by himself.

Thats all I got.

Most of the time neither of those are true statements. Some racehorse owners make money but they are also supporting a big stable with maybe 1 or 2 stars. Boarding barns are usually a labor of love and lucky to make a profit (except the super spendy fancy ones that winter in Florida). Especially with the cost of feed and hay skyrocketing in the past year. That’s only going to get worse, too.

Well yea. They're huge animals that require their own stable among a million other things. You really can't casually own a living thing that big.

For real though, it’s the military and service aspect we’ve had with them for so long. Horses allowed people to traverse the great grass sea, allowed us to herd, conquer, move, transport, build.

Perhaps more than any other animal, the horse is responsible for the advancements of civilization.

We even have measurement systems involving horses. They are a special animal
