Texas is an overrated state.

I like hill country, but I'd rather live in NWA, Northern Georgia, EasternTennessee, NW South Carolina. Anywhere with a little more seasons, fall colors, elevation change.

Peter Santenello put out a new YouTube video yesterday about the Upper Peninsula and it looked gorgeous. I didn’t know about the Finnish influence up there, they seemed like salt of the earth type people
Went to the UP in June this year for a week and a half. Beautiful country. Thinking about getting a summer home up there.

And the 53 down votes come from people that live in Louisiana. That's comical right there!! Lol!!!

That would be high up in my list also. I lived in Charlotte for 6 years and a couple hours away in the area you mentioned is great.
I’m sure taxes would weigh heavy on that decision once retired and I think Tennessee doesn’t have a state income tax. I’d probably pick the state that would let me keep more of my income in retirement.

Foothills of the Rockies in Colorado, right around Fort Collins.

TX >>>>>>>> CA/OR/WA. That should be included in the OP's criteria as well.
I think that was his point, i.e., all things conceded the TX HC is hard to beat. I agree.
God bless Texas!

I just looked this up and it's in Encampment, WY. We've been there twice ('14 & '18) and never knew about it. We stayed in Saratoga both times. We are going back out there next July and are again staying in Saratoga. We will definitely check it out this go-around.
That's awesome, that whole area is amazing.
Pretty much anytime you can find water it's a mini paradise.

What are some other parts of America that rival or are superior to the outdoors found here? Nice rivers and lakes to swim, fishing, hiking, beautiful views, nice people, hunting, etc.

Well yeah that’s why kid rock made a song about it
Kid Rock was talking about the northern part of the lower peninsula, not the upper peninsula, though both areas are awesome.

Upstate NY in general is beautiful. Well preserved with such minimal suburban sprawl. Texas Hill Country is cheaper though.

Coastal and Southern California if you are speaking geographically and ignoring the politics and the human de-evolution ongoing

There are plenty of places in the US that are pleasant more than 6 months of the year.

Growing up here in Texas on the Gulf Coast I used to think nothing beat the Hill Country and thought I would live there eventually. Then I spent time in the Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains as an adult and love that area of the country.
Now I'm just sort of apathetic when it comes to spending time in the Hill Country. Plus it's gotten way too crowded since I was a child.
In Texas I actually prefer the Palo Pinto area west of Fort Worth more now than the Hill Country. It reminds me a bit of what the Hill Country used to be like.

Northern Alabama seems nice, and it doesn't suffer from water shortages (too soon?) like Austin-San Antonio always does. A girl I used to date had a lakehouse somewhere up there in AL, and it was beautiful. Less populated, and cheaper than Northern GA I'd think.

My last camping hiking trip through CO, NM, AZ and ID taught me that the southwest isn't cacti and deserts, I don't think the TX hills could compare to their mountain majesty.
