I hear upper Michigan during the summertime is paradise.
Peter Santenello put out a new YouTube video yesterday about the Upper Peninsula and it looked gorgeous. I didn’t know about the Finnish influence up there, they seemed like salt of the earth type people.

I went to geology field camp in Salida Colorado.
It's a great place to get away from humidity, and with the Arkansas River flowing by, (at least back then) water usage in town was unmetered.
There was still moly mining nearby back then, so some bars weren't welcoming of a whole lot of college students, but otherwise the locals were friendly and just plain nice people.
One woman I talked with was surprised I was from the East. She had been "east " one time and said she felt as if she were drowning in green, and preferred to see mountains with only a few trees.
Go early before the Angel of Shavano melts.

Northern Arkansas
The only other place I would live is NWA. It’s beautiful, clean and prosperous. It is Deep South but unfortunately it’s still Arkansas
I love the honky tonks and live music in the Hill Country. There are plenty of golf courses, hiking, natural beauty and community events. I love having two major cities and so much rural area close. You can hit the coast in three hours if you want. You can get to DFW and Houston easily. The property crime in San Antonio sucks but Trump and ICE are correcting a big part of the problem

The home of George Strait.
To answer the question though, the High Country of NC is pretty damn great. Beautiful scenery, the climate of Western PA/Eastern Ohio, and awesome people, great camping/hiking, and the highest average elevation east of the Mississippi
As well as SE Wyoming.

I just looked this up and it's in Encampment, WY. We've been there twice ('14 & '18) and never knew about it. We stayed in Saratoga both times. We are going back out there next July and are again staying in Saratoga. We will definitely check it out this go-around.

An underrated area is along the Ohio River in Southern Indiana. Rolling hills, low crime, very affordable real estate, and favorable demographics. There’s some good folks up that way.

The entire Kentuckiana area is that way.
Underrated.
Underrated.

Since Texas started accepting refugees from California everywhere has blown up around hill country.
Not just there, bought land in Gonzales in 03 for 1850/acre now just under 10x that amount.

What are some other parts of America that rival or are superior to the outdoors found here? Nice rivers and lakes to swim, fishing, hiking, beautiful views, nice people, hunting, etc.
This sounds like the entire Northeast outside of the cities.
I like the Hill Country in Texas but it seems some people may just be comparing it to geographic regions immediately around it which are the main parts of the US that don't fit that description, the Gulf Coastal Plains and southern Great Plains.

Texas Hill country is beautiful, but Yosemite is next level and nothing even comes close to it

Well we can start with Whitefish, MT, and go from there.
