I firsthand experienced:
--Wonderful plays
--Serious racial violence (with knives and "picks")
--Drug addled sixteen year olds and pregnant thirteen year olds
--Some of the poorest people I have ever seen
--Real sharecroppers
--Refugees straight off the chopper from Saigon
--Beautiful, beautiful homes
--Shocking anti-intellectualism
--Cocaine smuggling straight from Colombia
--The birth of zydeco as a cultural phenomenon
Now you can say what you want to. But it was a rich experience.

I know him. He was pretty cool growing up. Not sure how he is now.

I lived there for 20 years and I pretty much can't stand to even drive through it anymore except to get a Joes burger or Pizza Shack.

What is a redeeming quality of Opelousas?
It has an interstate running through it so its easy to drive through without having to stop.

Being from Opelousas gives me street cred, besides that everything is food related.

I know just about everyone y'all have mentioned. I was wiith John Ed and Coach when John Ed shot his first duck in Holly Beach. My family has been here since before 1800. Several were in the Spanish militia that marched with Gálvez against the English in the Revolutionary War. Opelousas has changed to say the least. All of my family is here. Guess I will run out the string here.
