I caught plenty of catfish in The Atchafalaya on them. Put those poor arse Canadian cold worms to shame. Fresh cats from that deep water, best eating in the world.

While we're reminiscing, used to buy my tunes from "Music City", next to the old "Food Town" and "Ben Franklins". "Audio Hideout " gets an old plug for the car stereo stuff. The two" Fill-a-Saks" on the North and South ends also contributed to my underage alcohol sales. GOD BLESS THEM...

Does anyone remember the name of that bar somewhere near downtown, seemed like the band Atchafalaya played there a lot.

It wasn't on the main drag (US 190), it was a few blocks to the south.

Worm road :)

Eta: I should have read the rest of the thread.

Also someone mentioned the bar tiffanys. I grew up 2 houses down. My grandmother was next door to it and my house next to that.

If you live on Prayer House Rd. I bet you know my godmother.

Her 17 year old daughter was the one killed in the driveway about 2 weeks ago by the falling tree.
her husband did my surveying. His brother is a really good friend of mine.

Palace Cafe is a cool little nostalgic diner there.

Nostalgic? Yes. However, the one time I was in there, I found the food and service lacking. I wouldn't go back in there.

When I was young and we would pass through Opelousas, we would always stop at Coonie's bakery. It is long closed but there was none better.

Hull's Bakery was pretty good also back in the day. Continental Trailways busline used to have a stop there also. Would get on them to visit my brother in New Orleans for a couple of weeks every summer when he was at UNO. I was around 12-14 years old back then. Not a chance in hell today I would let anyone of my loved ones that age alone on a bus, but times were WAY different back then.
