The factory reset took care of it. No more pop up messages saying virus or wanting money

Did a factory reset. Had a message wanting money to get message off the screen.
I get pop up messages saying my device is infected with viruses.

What keeps causing these things on mobile? A bunch of stuff I don't even download or type keeps popping up on pages and search boxes. Spam websites and messages keep popping up also.
Should I do a factory restore? What causes the google search box to be infected like that?

Auto complete is the word I was looking for. Will it clean out trash and spam from google search auto complete?
When I'm typing in the google search box it previews trash and spam also. Will these programs stop this?
Will it fix the spam in the preview search box too?

How do I setup roku with a router in a separate room then modem?
The instructions say to hook up roku to modem but modem isnt in same room as TV I want roku on.
