I found the article pretty misleading to even mention meds. To my knowledge, DBT is the only treatment

Agree. People seem to confuse borderline & bipolar a lot. This author doesn’t help by suggesting medication treated her borderline.

I’d take a bipolar person over borderline any day of the week.

What I know about Borderline and Bipolar disorders, is you never ever suggest a significant other may have signs. Nope. It won’t end well.... actually it probably wasn’t going to end well anyway

Yep. G4 could turn it off and on like a light switch.

There is no medicine for such a disorder, or any personality/character disorder for that matter. More prevalent in women than men. Hope that time burns out the extreme intensities.

Was she actually diagnosed with either one? You can't turn bipolar off and on. I will admit I don't know a lot about borderline as I have not lived with someone who had it, but I doubt that is turned on and off as well. I will say one has to take their medicine properly which is one thing she didn't do whatever she had.

No you cannot. I had an ex that was bipolar, but to her credit she was at least able to recognize it and we dealt with it appropriately by spending most of that time apart; even when we lived together.

She would go into a deep deep depression that was impossible to shake her out of and get stuck there for hours to days. Then she would almost just snap out of it. When she was happy it was amazing though, talk about the best partner ever in every sense.

I realized a lot of people don't really know the difference between bi-polar, borderline personality, and multiple personality disorder.

I think you're confusing BPD with multiple personality disorder. But that was an attempt for sure.

No Idea. Her persona here was happy and giggly for awhile, then angry and aggressive, followed by happy and giggly. I never met her IRL and only spoke to her a handful of times on here.

SS could tell you more.

I have an ex with this. She is absolutely fricking insane. Refuses to take meds

Meds won't do anything. it's a behavioral problem that she has to recognize and correct. But guess what? They can't admit fault so they will never correct the behavior.

This is an important point made earlier. I went through intensive counseling with an ex with BPD. The doctors explained that some mental illnesses do have a biological or chemical imbalance basis that responds to medications. BPD is a personality or character disorder that is rooted in behavioral adaptations that these people have picked up and are so ingrained that they are almost helpless to control. Medications do not help, although many BPD sufferers also have depression, anxiety and other issues that can be alleviated through meds so that they can then focus on behavior approaches.

The only successful treatment has been a combination of close, supportive relationships, ongoing dialectical behavioral therapy and meds for any secondary issues. The problem is these people destroy their relationships, refuse ongoing therapy because they blame everyone and everything else for their problems, and won’t consistently take meds.

Best bet is to let go and let God.

Sometimes I felt like I might have this. Then realized it was just going into drepession for a few days after a weekend of binge drinking.

This.
If you are in a relationship with a woman with this and you don’t have any knowledge of BPD, you definitely have to educate yourself away from the situation. Extreme gaslighting will leave you confused AF until you learn the game. If you try to use just logic to understand all the crazy, you’ll have yourself a case of PTSD. Ain’t no fixing this crazy. Educate yourself and recognize, Run far away if you can. Zero contact is best. Good luck.

Work with one. He is so high or so low that it is extremely weird on both poles. BUT it takes a former unstable individual like myself to notice his behaviors. Most of the others who work closely with him do not see it (a few do...so not just me).

Once upon a time I thought I had this. Turns out I was just bored and unmotivated.

It is a serious disease though because many who have it are just unaware and think others will not notice.

I feel like this may have happened to me. Not the extreme examples that I've read about but good enough to frick me up for a while. But then again, ive wondered if I have some of the symptoms and just learned to control it.
