Mandating a $15/hr minimum wage will have a lot bigger impact on a place like Baton Rouge vs Seattle.

I doubt it will be a huge impact to south Baton Rouge. But it will be felt in other parts of town.

That's why I don't think it's a good idea to have a significant jump like that. It's going to hurt businesses that may have already been struggling (either due to having thin margins or covid-related drop in sales). They will have to let people go.

What works in New York, won't work in Baton Rouge or Memphis. What works in Baton Rouge or Memphis won't work in Alexandria or Monroe. etc. The appropriate minimum wage depends entirely on the surrounding area.

If the only job available is fixing the shake machine, it might just be working.

I don't know man, you'd be doubling the labor costs for most low wage jobs - think convenience stores, grocery stores,

C-stores are going to struggle. A lot of tourist businesses in New Orleans would feel the pain too. But grocery and fast food probably have the volume to survive this with small price increases that most consumers wouldn't really notice.

Things like car washes and retail stores (already struggling due to covid and e-commerce) are going to be hit much harder than Cane's, Chick Fil A, McDonalds, or Rouses.

$15 is too high for anywhere in Louisiana, especially if it happens all at once. Smaller businesses are going to be hit much harder than the corporate giants.

It's funny that the thought is that these places will just start paying people more and accept that they're gonna make less money. The money has to come from somewhere and it sure as hell isn't coming from the already existing profits.

When we get a $15 per hour minimum wage, it will set in motion what the government wants all along.

It will drive all small business “out of business”.

Then, only the big companies can survive. The politicians will force the large corporations to donate to their campaigns and if they don’t, they will pass laws to force them out of business as well.

The politicians will get richer and more powerful. Conditions will get worse and the politicians will “promise the hurting people more free stuff” for more votes.

Continue continue continue in a cycle until the country is bankrupt.

Then blame it all on “we did not give the government enough power soon enough”.

Price of living will double if not triple! I for one will have to let atleast 2 of my 5 employees go and then hope to survive from there. Totally stressing every time I think about it

Automation becomes the norm.

That's what will happen.

Amazon is building at Cortana and will hire
1000-1200 at $15.00 an hour
Wages are going up no matter what the local govt does.

Skyrocketing crime

Skyrocketing investment in Automation

Skyrocketing unemployment

Skyrocketing cost of goods and services

Lower and Middle classes actually suffer more than the rich who can easily absorb the hit. That $15 will be cut into to the point where it is practically where it is now, and the only thing left over will be Baton Rouge's contribution to the looming inflation crisis.

Doubling the minimum wage would call for more than a small price increase

The idea is to make such a quagmire that people will accept government solutions, like taking over businesses.

Proggies know people will not vote for communism or socialism, they'll just slowly destroy the economy where people will have to accept it.

Boosting minimum wage to $15/hr would also boost UE benefits along with it.

You'll have young individuals not being able to get entry level jobs and the ones that do will be carrying the load of their laid off counterparts. They will then say $15/hr isn't enough for the increased workload.
