Does minimum wage matter to those who don't work?
I think what they are trying to do (and I don't necessarily agree that it'll work), is bump the minimum wage to a level that is actually "profitable" for entry level workers. If you can sit on your arse and collect welfare and other entitlement programs, and come out to the equivalent of 20k income, why would you work a minimum wage job that pays 14k per year? Now, I don't really think it's going to work, but I think that's part of their "plan" for increasing minimum wage.

One result will be that a Five Guys burger will cost north of $20.00, easily.

More automated dealios, and better employees.

African Americans and no skilled workers will be fricked, they will push themselves out of work. Skilled people who got a shite degree will do that work for $15, and the product will improve.

The Shake machine will be working.

The price of everything just goes up effectively making the $15 worth the equivalent of $7. Those making more than minimum wage won’t get a raise , paying more for less. This effects everything so even houses will cost more. So you’re not helping those making minimum wage you’re crushing the middle class which is the whole point.

That's a federal minimum wage that won't apply to businesses that don't have federal contracts.

My Master's degree that I have will be worth even less for when I return to the workforce.

Or the salary will start higher which means everything else will be more expensive. Which is not necessarily good.

Do you have a reference for this? I'd like to believe this, but I also know the Federal government will exert tremendous pressure on the states to up their min. wage.
Small businesses around the country are really stressing right now, including our own. At a minimum, we'd probably have to let at least one person go. It is a shame because we actually hired 4 people since covid started.

Prices will rise and a lot of small businesses will fail.

Conversely, you'll see a tremendous increase in demand as there is more money being spent by workers. Just as tax breaks "stimulate" the economy due to dollars in peoples' pockets, so too do wage increases.

Mandating a $15/hr minimum wage will have a lot bigger impact on a place like Baton Rouge vs Seattle.
It would have virtually no impact on Seattle, since it already has a minimum wage of nearly $17 an hour.

It's nothing but a form of wealth redistribution. The middle class will pay for it, not the wealthy.

This whole prospect, and the movement behind it, depresses me. And it will probably depress the whole US Economy. I feel powerless and unrepresented.

Kids must not have access to a basic economics course in HS. Either that, or they simply don’t GAF.
