re: What happened to flat tires?

I got a flat, two weeks ago. Had to get a tow truck. No spare, just the factory fix-a-flat pump that would work because of where the holes were.
Got another two years ago. Big arse bolt on the interstate.

Roadside assistance, no one changes their own flats anymore.
Do people really call roadside for flat tires? Roadside can sometimes take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour. I can have my tire changed and back driving way before then.

Now i feel like i can count on 1 hand the number of flats I or anyone in my family has had in the last 20 years.
You should meet my wife. She shreds at least 2 tires per year.
She blames her "low profile" tires. I blame her driving.

Better tires and a lot of cars have run flats as well.

Why did you get excited when your dad got a flat?

Do they even put spare tires on new cars anymore. I mean the good cars, not the cars that poors buy like Tundras.

That and the tire pressure sensors that will warn when tire pressure drops below a certain psi that cars in the 70s & 80s didn't have. Lots of flats that don't involve a foreign object puncturing the tire com from driving on underinflated tires.

Your name wouldn't happen to be Ralphie or Randy, would it?
i mean..it was kinda fun. broke up the monotony to be out on the side of the road with whizzing traffic going by while your dad pulled all these doodads out and magically lifted the car off the ground.

I haven't but I would if I was dressed in nice clothes and going somewhere that I needed to be clean. I could change a tire in 30-degree weather with gloves, and I'll still end up sweating and dirty somehow. I keep a portable air compressor in my truck and my wife's vehicle. Anything short of a blowout, that little compressor should give me enough air to get to a tire shop.

If you are feeling nostalgic just drive in Baton Rouge for a week and you’ll rack up your tire numbers
