That’s one of the weirdest things I’ve read here - excited for a flat tire? Huh?

I'll tell you what, there is not a worse feeling than having to change a flat tire on the side of the interstate at night. Scary as hell.

Growing up in the 70s and 80s it seems like my dad had a conversation on a rotary phone at least 3 or 4 times a day. It was expected and we almost got excited when it happened.
Now i feel like i can count on 1 hand the number of rotary telephone conversations I or anyone in my family has had in the last 20 years.

Yea I figured that since the entire post was a quote. But still, they were way off.

I end up picking up 2 or 3 nails or screws a year it seems. The Houston roads have tons of random debris. A house being built or roofing being done near you. You're gonna get a nail in the tire.

They finally figured out how to make tires out of whatever pussy is made out of.

Turns out your dad was letting the air out so he could keep you fresh on how to deal with adversity

I live in Dallas where you try to find the smallest pot hole to drive through, there are no streets without potholes. So flats happen.

quote:Not just the tires. Manufacturing has tighter specs for the rims also. Cast rims now have fewer imperfections due to metallurgical improvements, technique improvements, quality assurance testing improvements, etc.. Fewer defective rims = fewer flats, as well as better tire materials and manufacturing = fewer flats.
Better tires and a lot of cars have run flats as well.

people no longer regularly haul construction debris and junk to the local dumps so all that trash and scrap metal doesnt litter the roads as much
that and there is less waste in construction so loose nails arent thrown around as trash but they are collected and saved for the next job
thats the biggest reason, screws and nails cost too much today to be treated as loose trash that can be allowed to roll around loose in the back of construction trucks
that plus tires are made better and with thicker tread today so even if you pick something up on the road its less likely to breach the inner belts
