Used to everyone had a pair and you weren’t cool unless your shoes had those yellow threads going around the sole. Now I never see anybody in them.

Before they blew up in high schools in the late 1990s, the black ones were a preferred choice of metalheads.

Then brown ones caught on

I still have a pair in my closet from the 90s. Those things last forever.

I have a pair that is only several years old. I always liked them because you could wear them with just about anything. One time I even wore a black pair with a tuxedo because the shoes I got with the tuxedo were way too big and I didn't try it on ahead of time just in case so I shined my black docs up really good and wore them...

But I worked on a project years ago and I wore docs everyday. There was a guy from England working on the same project and one day he stopped me to tell me he noticed that I wear doc martins and went on to tell me that was all he used to wear and that when he moved to the US he couldn't believe how much they cost because in England, there wasn't a better quality shoe for their cost.. But they are still a good shoe.

The only boots that I've ever owned that lasted as long as Docs without any sort of resoling etc are Red Wings.

I haven't been without a pair of Docs since the early 90's. Their slip on chelsea boot is incredibly comfortable and durable.
