I work in a local hospital lab. New director hired. 18 emp quit including 4 dept heads.

Government contract where the long time contracting firm lost on a rebid. The new contracting firm had no idea what they were doing. They let key people go and had replacements come in who didn’t know how to do the jobs. They tried to have the remaining key resources expand their responsibilities to fill some of the vacant key positions, which was a non-starter. The thing became a wheel spinning operation.
Lots of people found new jobs.

Lay off a local man before all the travelers were laid off. Big no no unless the local man was screw up and everyone knows it and then it’s debatable.

Oil and gas downturns can be rough, if you've been through it you know. So you know how it is, you either get laid off or you get the privilege of taking on other people's jobs that they cut.

I've been self-employed ever since and I do very well for myself now. It definitely sucks being on the other side of it though, I had to liquidate one of my companies during the O&G downturn circa 2017. Instead of being a dick and having the managers do it and then laying off the managers, I spent a week speaking to each person individually. IMO it's the least you can do in an unfortunate situation like that.

Head of the dept decided to do a big RIF on the way out the door for retirement.

All of her directors were RIF'd with a 30 day notice. All directors treated badly by her...told to vacate offices but still report for work unless they wanted to use leave.

Then, she RIF'd 70% of the rest of the employees with the idea that everyone would have to reapply for their jobs. Maybe 10-15 people would not be selected to stay.

More than 20 chose not to reapply due to the way their bosses (the directors) were treated.

At the end of that 30-day period, all the directors and 20 of the best employees walked out the door (including an entire small dept). Since she was retiring, she didn't think of doing any knowledge transfers or anything from the directors.

They are in a world of hurt now...no one knows passwords, how to do certain things, etc.

Her replacement was hired from outside the org and came in to chaos. He has been reaching out to people asking them to come back, etc.

And yes, I'm one of the former directors. I wouldn't go back for anything. Dumpster fire.

Along a different line. A restaurant in BTR, that had a number of locations. I go in one day to find out they had let the manager go. I called her, asked what was going on, she said the owner told her, he didn’t need her.

I never went back, within 6-8 months, it was closed. I guess, they really did need her.

Paychecks bounced.
