Same here. I could offer a legit explanation, but too many PCs here. I will say this. Much of the sociological crap is just that - crap. I get tired of hearing what amounts to weak excuses.

Yes, Lyndon Baines Johnson's policies really did a dis-service to blacks and society in general.

lack of education?

How about racism?

Low expectations from society?

Very complicated question. There are many reasons.

There are a finite amount of things you can do with your poor people.

We aren't sending them off to war or putting them to work on some grand construction project, and we subsidize their breeding.

They have no skin in the game. They are paid for and then not utilized, other than for vote farming.

The racial aspect is coincidental. People of every color can be found across the spectrum. The reason we have a certain color of concentrated poor in the south and some larger cities is an ignomious legacy of past transgressions.

I would say poverty, but some of the most impoverished human beings live out in the deep country and sticks.

Honestly, it's culture. I know that culture is an over-broad term, but I could really attack specific points and narrow it down for you.

33 great reply. It doesn't have too be about color. Our government funds these rinse and repeat cycles for a certain fraction of our population. You nailed it on the voting thing. Why do the same shitty congressman and women constantly get re-elected in the worse neighborhoods? As long as the government funding is not changed or taken away in these poverty areas these congressman will continue to be re-elected. This continues for the future generations of government support.

Poverty

I see this repeated over and over. This leads me to one major question, if poverty causes such high crimes rates, should crime not have been much higher 60, 70, or 100 years ago when poverty levels were much higher than they are now?

60-100 years ago you didn't have as many people living in cities and you had a very large farming industry (which led to poverty status)

You sent your poor off to die in mass numbers or migrated them elsewhere as a check on their rampant growth.

Plus, those people were ACTUALLY poor. Had to work and scrape to survive and provide for themselves.

Our "poor" today have big screens and smartphones and eat better than working Americans. There should be no fat poor people. If you are fat you aren't poor enough.

Plus society took care of itself and policed itself better back then. And they had fathers.

You want to know what caused the problems? LBJ's "great society."

Designed to emasculate the black father and make blacks dependent on gov't.

Violent crime was higher 60 years ago? Or a 100 years ago? You got a link on that?

I agree on the poverty answer but I also believe that this current presidential administration has relied heavy on the poverty level population for votes. I mean it is obvious that as long as their welfare is not changed or reduced they will continue to vote for whomever gives them free shite. Also isn't that number of people that have just quit looking for jobs at an all time high? I mean this current administration has done nothing to get lazy arse people off their asses or off their backs (welfare abusers)to become a productive member of society. My .02

this is the main reason

load of horseshite

poor =/= bad

It's the reward system for bad behavior that is the reason.

Example:

I one man's culture, if he commits a crime, he's banished or shunned. No one would date, befriend, or anything with that character.

Other man's culture, he commits same crime, he's a badass, sexy, go getter, provider

I agree with a lot of that... But would qualify it with my belief that this current administration has only NATIONALLY exacerbated a trend that began long ago and has been exploited more on a local level even longer.

Poverty,

you are talking about the after effect

a culture of immorality leads to an unsynergistic reward system that causes nothing but blight.

when man is rewarded for doing good things, society is uplifted, when man is rewarded for doing bad, society is destroyed resulting in more poverty....but poverty was not the reason....a culture that embraces immorality is the reason....poverty is the after effect

My opinion - Only because I'd likely be considered immoral by some segments of society.

To most people outside looking in, the obvious answer here would be welfare reform. Unfortunately with this it becomes a race issue, rich versus poor, etc. I mean why reward a single mom with 4 kids by 4 different daddies more money? Cap the payment for this mom at 3 kids. You watch what happens she quits having more babies , starts taking care of the ones she has. There is no end to this until our government addresses this issue. Yet they hide behind the smoke screens like race just to continue to get that VOTE.

I don't think police or the judicial system cause any person to commit crime.

While true, this almost feels like this is overlooking any factors behind the immorality. Education, or lack thereof could very well be one of the biggest factors behind it. I know that people here say that college is not for everyone, but for those living in urban areas, that may very well be their best way out of poverty, and likely out of that culture of immorality.
