Alcoholic in denial is what it means.

I swear, half the cigarettes sold in the US in 2022 were smoked at AA meetings.

functional alcoholic
one is not drunk at all, but can blow a 0.10 . Their body has built up a tolerance to alcohol given the sheer amount they have drunk in the past.

Denzel Washington in the movie Flight was the first thing I thought of when imagining a functional alcoholic.

Functional alcoholic drinks a lot, but still maintains a successful career, is a decent parent to their children, capable spouse, etc. Basically, someone who likes to get drunk frequently, but doesn’t allow it to negatively impact the most important parts of their life. Most working people in Louisiana fall into this category.

A non-functioning alcoholic is someone who prioritizes their drinking to such a degree that they can no longer hold down a professional job or maintain the most important relationships in their life. It doesn’t take much or very long to transition from the former to the latter, but it can be incredibly difficult to go the opposite direction.

You and third leg have it nailed. When one has to drink to keep an even keel it’s late in the game. Morning shakes ala Leaving Las Vegas

There really isn’t a functional alcoholic. They are just the lucky ones that haven’t faced major consequences YET.

Thought you were going to be short. You wrote a fricking novel.

I’m a functioning alcoholic. Functional enough to design every GD telecommunications and power substations in the southern region to Denver.

Just wrapping up a substation for Mississippi.

I drink because I’m sad. Women chase after 6 ft men. Falling over themselves for a couple of inches.

Lol…so they’re in line for the next load of HPV.

You see, women have zero accountability for their actions. They have a pussy…pretty much maintains their existence. You want to know why they object to prostitution?

Knew a guy who drank PBR from sunup to sundown every day. He would leave beer in a cooler next to his bed in case he woke up at night

Guy lived to be 90 somehow

The scene where he is fricked up before court and they have to call John Goodman to bring cocaine to get him moving is GOAT.

Drinking once per week and getting hammered 3 - 4 times a year is the definition of social drinking. Just because it takes him longer to recover doesn’t make him an alcoholic.

It’s a weird conditioning thing. If you don’t drink for a month and drink one night you’ll feel awful the next day. However if you drink that next day you won’t feel as bad the next day, and so on.

Guess it’s same with drugs, if you do drugs one weekend the comedown is awful. However if you continue using you don’t really deal with it. Which I suppose is why it becomes addictive for some

My Father was in his 16th year of a 20 year military career when the drinking got the best of him and nearly got him busted and thrown out. If not for a C.O. that knew his potential he would have been gone. Fast forward some years into a career with the Federal Gov. and he nearly loses his job and the new home they had built. We had to lease out the home, couch surf and rent a run down home to get off the streets, all due to the drinking. By the grace of God he quit drinking and got back on his feet and never drank again. He was functional(able to meet his responsibilities) until he wasn't. It contributed to my failing a grade and causing other strife within our family. Thank God for a strong faithful Mother who never stopped praying for his and her children's souls. Strange story for Fathers Day.

Good lord.
It would be funny to meet all the women you’ve dated and such to help you come up with this trashy assessment of women.

Alcoholism is a disease and it’s also the only disease you can get yelled at for having.
