Good food and good alcohol. About once a week (sometimes more), we’ll go out to one of 3 restaurants at which we are regulars. We have a starter, we get salads, entrees, and we accompany the food with an assortment of cocktails, wine, and whiskey. Depending on the restaurant, we usually drop between $200 and $300 after tip
The wife and I go on date night about once per month and our bill is usually $200+. We usually Uber which is another $40. If money ever got tight that would probably be the first thing I'd cut. I budget for it like it's a bill though.
We have kids and it's nice to get an evening to ourselves. It's like marriage counseling but more fun.

Girlfriend and I go out almost every weekend but we only spend about $100-120 all-in. Where are y’all going / how much are you drinking to be spending $200-300/night?
Most entrees are $18-25 where we go.

Appetizer, nice steak a bottle of wine is going to escalate pretty quickly. Then you add a 20% tip and boom that's 200 bucks.

I’ve spent $200 on dinner just on myself quite a few times

Old cars, old toy trains

Yeah...we don’t do those kind of places
If we want steak, I cook it at home. We occasionally eat steak with work dinners...it isn’t something either of us want frequently.
We order a cocktail and beer...bottles of wine out that to shame. Four cocktails can be $45-50 which is still less than a “cheap” bottle of wine at a restaurant.

We are both in our 40s so we don't really go to bars anymore. We only do that maybe once every 3-4 weeks. Last weekend we went to Rouj Creole. Had $14 drinks, $40 steaks and a $50 bottle of wine. It adds up quickly.
Our favorite place is probably Maison Lacour. It's money we could easily cut out of the budget if needed. Just something we look forward to without kids.

The thing is, this isn't even top restaurants or anything like that.
App: $15
Entrées: 35x2
Two drinks each: $40
Dessert: $10
That doesn't seem too crazy. Yet that's 135, after tax that's close to 150. Then tip. Thats 175.
Now, we personally don't do that every weekend like (kids). But that shite just escalates too fast sometimes. And typically when you do the math it's the drinks that get up there fast.

It's always the alcohol that gets you.

“waste money on”?:
Go out to eat and/or drink with family and I usually get the check.
Not really a waste but certainly it’s a luxury.
For myself, any mechanical project (restorations) I’ve got going, boat and fishing shite, or collector coins.
I also buy investment grade coins but I’m half-assed working on complete date & mint sets of different US series.
Personal Travel costs are the single largest discretionary expenditure we have in our budget.

We aren’t doing entrees that cost that much so that’s $30 or so that doesn’t get compounded with tax and tip. We do a lot of Mexican versus steak or seafood and drink a bit less than other posters. Nice context for my cheap dates

We did it a lot less when we were younger. Take all of the money we used to spend going out every weekend and this is still much cheaper.

I’ve curtailed most of my extra spending. Now it’s just beer, because I’m an alcoholic.
