People become more accepting of government shutting down everything for anything.

The bureaucrats won't let this crisis pass without legislation that cuts into our freedoms and gives them more control.

Kind of like the patriot act after 9/11.

Agreed, I'd add stockpiling food too. I was raised in large part by my grandmother, born in 1913. This lady rinsed off tin foil, kept margarine containers, spent days cleaning ink marks off a $15 shirt. Her walk-in pantry was always stocked for the apocalypse.

My husband always thought I was crazy for having so much food on hand, but aside from additional meat and frozen food, I hardly had to buy anything. We've got enough to make it till May if we have to.

Went out to run a few errands on Sunday. I was so much more paranoid than I thought I'd be. I almost told an old lady in line right behind me to back the frick up so we don't get one another sick. Is this what life is like as a germaphobe?

I've always had very strong immunity to bugs and such but I think this experience will certainly make me more aware of things like escalator handles, debit pin pads, etc.

I've been so much more aware of all of that the past week, and my friend I've been traveling with is not at all. It killed me that we were sharing a place so basically everything I was doing to protect myself didn't matter because she did none of it Ruining my efforts!

I’m a little worried that people will realize how comfortable it can be to stay at home in today’s world, leading to an even further withdrawal away from sociability

I actually think just the opposite will happen for the exact same reason.

Staying at home, people will go stir crazy and be more inclined to gain socialization in more pleasurable social situations at their own will. As of right now, people get a lot of socialization at their place of work but it's not exactly pleasant because you're working. They withdraw from work and go home and want peace and quiet. If they're home all day thehre going to be more inclined to go out in the afternoon, night time and on the weekends and socialize since they will no longer be getting that fill at work.

de-emphasize urban areas, especially major urban areas

Maybe over a long, long period of time. Rapid de-urbanization would just collapse the economy all over again in terms of real estate.

Who gives a shite?

A new 'back to the land' movement, like the mini one that happened in the 70s, would be awesome to see. It would fundamentally shift society and we wouldn't be so soft and triggered all the time. Just think what it would do to people's perceptions on firearms and food safety when you have to get back to hunting, killing and growing your own food. Not to mention, sawing your own timber, sewing your own clothes, building your own house and outbuildings, Etc. I'd much rather spend 40 hours a week providing for my family that way than wage-slaving in a cubicle.

I have two weeks worth of food and meds...as it goes for my house we will hunker down for the next two weeks and pray this next wave of infection (that’s coming due to stupidity of others who some how failed to get the memo) isn’t that bad or at least slows. I am thinking obviously that many who didn’t before will NOW take this serious and within one month the curve will flatten some.

At least you will have all that shite for the flu season that actually kills more people. Just teach your family to keep washing their hands before they eat, they are more likely to be killed by norovirus lurking on your counter.

Capitalism will wane as a universal basic income is established. A more leisurely, socialistic society. Millennials will shape the culture to their liking and legalize euthanasia so that they can do away with the last of the Boomers.

NO MORE BUFFETS. Nasty arse no washing hands people grabbing spoons and sneezing on trays. Ryan’s, Golden Corral, and casinos should have been banned years ago for the Petri dish they serve as food.
