Came across my timeline, a company called NEOM.

quote:

THE LINE is the first major urban development in 150 years not designed around roads. An invisible layer of infrastructure will enable building in and around nature rather than over it.

Welcome to the new future.
Welcome to THE LINE.

Doesn't elon musk owe us a hyperloop by now too?

Won’t work. Too expensive to dig.

I wonder how much they'll have to tax us for this?

ETA: Oh, and I think it's a retarded idea.

Very cool in concept but there is no way we could manage the spending and coordination effectively.

Our future yellow overlords will probably do a good job at it, though.

All that digging is going to be expensive. Building appropriate columns to support that mass above will be a major undertaking. Finally, the drainage infrastructure necessary to keep all that underground space from flooding will be substantial. Seems pie in the sky expensive for a government that can’t build a tall fence across a bunch of scrub desert.

I would assume this for future development. NOLA is a lost cause.

Conceptually it has some merit, but reality is going to kick it right in the nuts.

And let's not pretend that digging down doesn't also disrupt nature.

Is this something the government is supposed to get done? If so, it will not happen.

Dubai by the Red Sea, basically. Too expensive, it's a billionaires fantasy.
