A friend of mine did it and at first i thought he had lost his mind.
Then after it was finished and i realized that of the 5000 sq feet, 2500 was his shop/garage and the rest was the house, i was shocked.
I actually turned out aweosme. He parks several things in all the garage space and still has plenty of room for tool boxes, generators, ice chests, etc.
Changed my whole opinion of them when i was inside one.

I want one on at least 5 acres. That's the plan for wife and I. Updating current house, saving money and looking for land.
Quite a few around here. I looked at one it was pretty big and it was about 288,000 with 8 acres.

They're great and cost efficient. The toughest part is convincing your wife.

I love it. Not for a neighborhood obviously, but a durable, low maintenance exterior is better than some crappy wood construction. Looks nicer than vinyl siding, too.

Amen to this.
Half of the people bashing this house probably live in one of those cookie cutter houses that some contractor build as cheap as possible and to just barely meet code, but because they overpaid for it they think they are living high off the horse.

Sounds like something poor people say to make themselves feel better.
Metal exterior is fine with me. Corrugated metal is on the same level as someone buying a doublewide.

Depends on the setting, on large acreage properties, I think they could look pretty good

I always wanted to do this when I was into building vehicles.
Now I think of something like this. Check the rest of their page for more designs.

They are better than glass houses. I have one of those and get nervous every time I toss stones.

I have a couple of friends who built homes or camps this way. One friend has one around Eunice that is around 10 yrs old and it still looks nice.
