My son learned life is unfair last year, when he was at UAB Children’s with blood sugar of 700: diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.

So yeah, he knows already.

I’m an existentialist, and I believe that life’s absurd...you’re ultimately responsible for who you are in the face of that. How you treat yourself and everyone around you in times of strain IS who you are. Make them count.

I want to be there for him, but honestly I don’t want to go all agro philosophy on him. I pay a lot for Catholic school.

I point to him towards people who have drawn even tougher lots in life and have a great attitude. The only thing you can 100% control is your attitude.

I have a relative who didn't allow her kids to say anything was unfair. Just plain told them it wasn't allowed. Now, they don't let their kids complain about "unfair".

By 14, if that child hasn’t already experienced something unfair - it’s time for the helicopter to depart

Yes, life is unfair.

How you deal with it, legally, will make all the difference in your world.

Take your kid to a childrens' hospital and let him see what cancer, unfairly, does to other children.

Sometimes perspective needs to be administered with a mental 2x4.

Our church group visited church run children's home and we got to meet contemporaries who had been born with thalidomide caused deformities.

Perspective.

Everyone has an issue with simply answering the question, they want to seek and destroy....

My son thinks I’m doing something about the bad luck but instead I’m at a restaurant bar trying to deal with it myself.

Who fricking knows?

You're making it sound like this kid just had his best friend die or he was diagnosed with terminal cancer or some other horrible thing. If it's just normal teenage bullshite, let it go. Explain life isn't fair and you make the most of the situation.
