I was in a doctor's waiting room sitting across from an elderly couple. The man's phone rings:

"Hello...hey...well, why don't you lock up your goddamn dogs???" The wife whacked him on the leg and looked around, embarrassed. I laughed more at her reaction than the man's language.

I will totally tell people I'm with to stop. You are the company you keep, but I'm not telling other people how to talk.

When I was a kid it was rare to hear cursing in public. Now it's common. I can remember being in my 20s and rarely hearing it among my peer group unless we were in a " boys only" setting. Now I'm spewing f bombs on the internet like Richard Pryor . I'm clearly in moral decline, lol.

Rarely happens, and it's usually 1 or 2 words slipping out.

I have 2 young boys, they're 6 now, but when they were in the 2-3 range, there were a couple of times at restaurants where I had to matter of factly tell a table they will stop cursing in front of my kids. Each time the group didn't say anything, just kinda quietly put their heads down and went about their business. I'm not a big guy so it's certainly not that they were scared by my actions. I think many people just aren't used to being checked like that, and generally speaking, most people aren't really looking for trouble or to really start things...again I said most people

Luckily, the 2 or 3 guys listened because if they truly decided to say to hell with me, not much I can really do. I mean, I'm not the big Hulk Street Fight chick, I'm not gonna beat up 3 dudes nor would I start an actual fight over it.

But if my kids aren't around, everyone is free to be as vulgar as they like, I don't care.

She has other needs you're not "filling".

OP: I didn't/don't go many places with women and/or children that would put me in the company of folks who use profanity in their normal speech.

Sporting events were about the only exception.

The imbeciles from Raider Nation can't make a single sentence without both profanity and incorrect grammar being included in it.

If you have a problem with this happening in your daily life, tighten up your life.

I'm almost always around people that talk like sailors. Recently have found myself with other's children and realized that I have a hard time turning on a filter. I have way too many slip ups. I don't know how teachers do it. I thought about doing some substitute teaching once upon a time. I wouldn't last a day with my mouth, thankfully words are just words and shouldn't be a big deal

I don't give a shite if people use vulgar language in public. But if there are kids around, and they just won't stop/it's incredibly inappropriate talk, I'll give em a little, "hey, c'mon."

I curse and say vulgar shite all the time in public. It's public so I can do whatever I want as long as it legal. Why America is great. I sometimes purposely say inappropriate
shite in pubic to annoy people.

I got a police officer to come and kick out some drunks at the LSU gAME for yelling profanities with kids around. At least one went to jail. It was awesome to see the looks on their shitty faces as the whole section clapped as they were walked out

But why do you cringe when someone swears in front of women?

Because some people do not live in 2017 and still think it is the 1950s. Sexist pigs think women can't handle hearing words.
