- The people need to stop accepting the status quo and stop electing people just because a candidate was nice to them or for some other reason other than how they would fit into the job they are running for.
Also, there needs to be more new blood being elected into the state house and senate. Or there needs to be more of a threat for these politicians. If they are in office and they know they will never have anyone serious run against them.. Then they tend to forget the only reason they have that job is because of the voters.
And this starts at the local level.
- Then there needs to be more industry here. Its that simple. The brain drain hurts the state. So there needs to be something that gets people to move here. But the problem with that goes back to the politicians. In order to do successful business here you have to take care of the right people. In some cases, that can be local and state.
- Education needs improving
- Infrastructure needs improving.

People are the problem and any effort spent explaining it away as something else is a waste of time. The welfare state makes up too large a portion of our electorate and the rest of us compound that problem by not sticking together and/or voting on the wrong issues. We have educated and well meaning people voting for JBE because of pro life and pro gun stances while ignoring the fact that he's a high tax big government lib just like the rest.
It's too far gone, but if you really wanted to try to fix it, the only way is to quit giving free rides. Quit overtaxing the middle class and let them prosper. The rest will sink or swim and society as a whole will be better for it in the long run. That's never going to happen tho. Either put up with it, or move.

1)Invest in infrastructure
2)Stop the corporate welfare, special subsides, parochial tax breaks, etc. except for the rare industry that wouldn't be here without them. That certainly doesn't include PetroChem, who would be here regardless. If the tax structure is that bad, fix it.
3)Price our resources at market rates. No more give-aways.

Annex into Texas and call it quits. Residents would be better off.

Remove about half the population.
Too many people are fatalist.

Ever heard the saying you can't help someone until they want to help themselves?
The electorate just rejected any meaningful change a few days ago, so stop trying to force change on a happy group of people just cuz you aint.

We do have one of the lowest cost of livings in the country too.
Also one of the lowest average income.
Actually the average income is lower than what it cost to own a home in Louisiana.

Eliminate state income tax-lose $3b
Pass drastic tort reform
Eliminate lawyer advertising
Use state police and Louisiana National guard to clean up New Orleans with extreme prejudice
Upon completion proceed to Baton Rouge and Shreveport
Legalize recreational marijuana-gain $1b+
Legalize prostitution in designated areas with strict controls
Minimize government waste
Revamp education on all levels
Offer major incentives for new businesses
Invest in infrastructure

Nothing, Louisiana is DONE...
When the racist Democrats outnumber the working class... It's the beginning of the end.
It will always end badly when the takers outnumber the givers.

Saying what I'd do to improve Louisiana would get me banned off this site.
