re: What do you do in shooter situation when you have a gun?

This question is simply too vague. If the circumstances were just right where I could take the guy out quickly, I would do it.
Otherwise, I would let the guys with body armor and training take care of it, and stay the frick out of the way.

Do you pull your gun and go after the shooter>?
A pistol is not an offensive weapon. A pistol is used for defense or to get you to a rifle. I don’t carry a rifle in my truck, and I’m usually carrying either my lcp max or Hellcat. Neither are really exciting if I’m trying to stop an active shooter running thru a mall with an AR.

This thread is interesting. I thought good guys with guns are supposed to be the solution to these situations?
They should be, but in these crazy days it depends on the DA and local jury pool.

Depends. Am I alone or do I have safety responsibility for to others.
Are any of my adult sons with me?
Do I know where the shooter is?
Do I have time to communicate with police so they know what I’m wearing?
Lots of variables but in general I would do what I can to stop the shooter.

Who was the dude who took down a guy a year or two ago? fricker could handle a pistol apparently. 40 yard pistol shot with bullets in his direction in a mail. Put him down. Want to say he hit him twice.
No charges for that dude right?
But yes I would be very scared to go into a building in street clothes with a pistol. Might just look like another shooter.

Don't forget about how loud the active shooters rounds are going to sound.... while u look down at your handgun & contemplate what your up against.

Run toward the sound of gun fire, hope the cops can tell you’re not shooting every opportunity that arises. Not worried about the DA around here, would probably get a day named after your.

Greenwood Park Mall shooting in Indiana last year. Dude took him out with 8/10 shots hitting from 40 yards away with a stock Glock.

Do you misunderstand the phrase “self defense”? It doesn’t mean there’s an obligation to hunt down killers. Is that what what you were thinking?
Progs don’t think

The way the law has been coddling of criminals and prosecuting people who defend themselves, can you blame people?

A neighbor of the Sutherland Springs TX church took the shooter out with his AR after the shooter left the church and was most likely heading to the house to kill the the person he was after that skipped church that morning. There is no doubt he saved some lives, he was labeled a hero and no charges were ever filed. Hell he was actually invited to the White House, of course it wasn't occupied by a Democrat at the time.

Not concerned about cops, more concerned about activist prosecutors.

Generally speaking, my gun is for me and my family/friends.
I'm sure as shite not running into a building trying to hunt down a lunatic.

If you are firing a weapon at the site where an active shooter is reported, you should expect to be mistaken for the bad guy because you are in fact an active shooter, even if you are not the bad guy.
Pretty much this.
If you need to defend yourself that’s one thing. You do what you have to do to survive.
If you’re already in the parking lot, going back in to engage the shooter is just asking to get shot by a cop. If you have family inside and need to go get them, OK. Go get them and defend yourself if necessary. But don’t run towards gunshots (the same place the cops should be running toward) guns drawn. You can’t reasonably expect them to be able to tell you aren’t the bad guy during the split second they have to make the decision.

Letting people enter places armed means that when a bad guy with a gun comes in looking to do harm, the people with the most to lose have the option to defend themselves. My responsibility is to my family, that means risking my life to save theirs, but not necessarily to put myself in a situation where I'm likely outgunned to save strangers. I might make that choice, but no one (other than law enforcement) is expected to.
As for me personally, if something is unfolding in the open and I see I have a good chance to stop it, I would. I would not enter a building and try to hunt down a shooter unless I had family or friends inside. Chances are they've got a rifle and body armor and I'm just carrying a pistol.
