re: What do Louisiana people think of the Duck Dynasty crew?

A buddy of mine’s dad use to duck hunt with the older guys on the show back in the 80s, has pictures from their hunts. He always said they were good guys. I realize now they no longer are in the shops making the calls but for long time they were doing that. Buddy of mine had some family property rented to do a show on DD and he got to watch some filming and said a lot of it is “winging it” although of course there’s a script.
I’ve met mountain man a few times hunting, he is exactly irl like he was on the show granted not a main character. I never watched it much but I’ve only heard good things about them

Duck Dynasty was scripted. Everyone knows that. But the characters on the show are extremely close to how they really are. I’ve been to Phil’s house a couple of times and this was way before the show. They were making videos and they were all making calls during the day. They always had a house full of people and Mrs Kay was cooking.
We were visiting Phil to get him to speak out our church for a wild game banquet. Of course he agreed to do it for free. They were the most down to earth family and extremely friendly. Just great people.

I don't think anyone who watched the show actually thought they made all the calls. Hell, they filmed from the huge warehouse a good bit. It was even more scripted towards the end, but it didn't matter. It was just a show about a few good families living their lives and running a business.
The world needs more Robertsons and less Kardashians.

Sadie making to finals of DWTS seemed to be pretty impressive. She lost to essentially a professional dancer.
Kind of odd she didn’t end up more famous though not surprising bc she probably would have been against many things Hollywood would’ve expected of her.

And Phil lives on the Ouachita river about 20 miles south of Monroe. Out in the middle of nowhere. There shop was right there next to the house. He used to baptize people in the river right next to his house. He was worth well over a million dollars (20 years ago) and lived in a new double wide on the river. And seemed to be as happy, content, and thankful as anyone I’ve ever met.

I'm half assed connected, as my Uncle (married my moms sister) is related to the family.
Great people, show is faker than hell but all reality shows are.

Have never seen it, but to make Port Protection exciting, it would have to be fake.
Lovely area though, its a hot spot for people escaping the real world.

I believe Si is the only one that doesn't have a college degree in the entire bunch. Martin was a wildlife biologist before going to work for DC.
Plus, not a single one of those guys actually has a hand in making duck calls anymore. Probably didn't before the show either.
Si was in the Army, retired after 25+ years. He was stationed all over the world and really is a Vietnam Vet. Martin is now the General Manager of Duck Commander. They do build the duck calls and work a shite ton of hours to fill orders so they can pretty much take off and hunt/film during hunting season. Jase still works for them designing calls, but is more of a consultant. A guy named Jay Stone, who married one of the grand daughters is over the day-to-day design and managing the building of calls. Willie is still CEO and still handles all the business. Si retired from DC completely after the show, but hangs around still. He's 72 and just got over Covid, despite having COPD.
They actually have a pretty good podcast that is fairly new called The Duckcall Room. They talked in one episode about reality vs production of the show. Of course production won out most of the time.

Most all of it was staged. With that being said, I’ve watched their hunting videos long before the show came out. Their personalities seemed pretty close to what they depicted on the show.

Just curious, what’s life like having no concept of change, forgiveness and redemption? It’s got to be a miserable.

Nah Arkansas or Mississippi. Texas wants nothing to do with that region. Texas wants to be South LA not old south Northern LA.

You're getting downvoted, but it's true. Anyone with half a brain knows that most of the show was just "made for TV".
Yep, not surprising though. A lot of people are too stupid to understand that not being yourself on reality tv isn’t some insult. Its just how it goes

Phil made them in his shop in the 90s for a fact. My brother went to NLU and we went out there several times. I didn’t even know who he was at first. Phil’s old instructional video could teach anyone to call.
