No way they come back in vogue like vinyl, right? Should they just be trashed? I have 2 boxes sitting in my attic.

I still have them around. The hard drive I had them all on crapped out and I haven't gotten around to replacing it. Whenever I do, they will all go into storage, I guess.

FLAC
They were in my trunk untouched until I got a new car. Now they're in my closet untouched.

I would still listen to mine if my car cd player worked.

I hang onto them. As far as data storage, discs have the most longevity and have great quality. As long as you don't scratch them up or leave them in the sun they never go bad.
The cloud should be safest except the company owning it could go belly up.
Vinyl, cassette, 8-track all deteriorate with each use. Hard drives have a very limited life. Can't trust streaming to always have what I want to watch/listen to.
That said, I usually just listen to mp3s or stream but I'm never getting rid of my hard copies.

How do you play this in a car? FLAC takes up too much memory to be worthwhile for loading on your phone or mp3 player.

There's really no need to use anything other than spotify in the car. However, if it's something not on there or you just have to have, install a Plex server and use the Plex app on your phone. Voila, your entire library is now streaming.

Only if you're crazy.

Well, that's just stupid.
Just buy of those cake box spindles that blanks came in and put them in there and into your closet.
You could just rip them to 128 kbit/s MP3's like some do since they sound just fine, right?
Some think that.
The best thing to do is buy a couple 4TB externals and rip everything (with EAC) in WAV's and leave them at that.
Keep the CD's.

Don't. Uploaded most to Google music which allows for 50,000 songs. Use that when in car. FLAC is for home

Dude I wasted too much time begging my parents for a 1990 Sanyo 5 disc carousel that STILL works for me to throw the 200 plus CDs that I still own. Just try to enjoy music through its many mediums.
