I didn't start driving until 1996, but cell phone service was still expensive. I think I had 40 minutes. If I was out and calling anyone besides home, I had to stop at a payphone. Of course, like everyone else, I wasn't used to being in constant contact with people like now. It was no big deal.

If you were in tiger stadium in the 70's and 80's, you'd hear Sid Crocker calling out over the stadium speaker, "doctor number 12362, please call your office".

The damn cars ruined things for this country. It was better when we just rode horses and got to know our neighbors. LOL

Pay phones. It sucked when they went from a quarter to 35 cents

“Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-Five:
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.”

Or more recently:

you’re on your way to X city but the interstate exit that says that city’s name isn’t the actual one your map says you’re getting off on.

You do know that some of those signs mean you have to get off there to get on a connecting highway or road to said city. Not all that confusing.

Landlines / Pay Phones
Pagers
Wrote Letters / Faxes
Listened to the radio (and commercials)
Used a camera / waited a week for pics to come out
Used calculators
Disconnected the landline and ran a long cord to computer to check email or use internet after about 30 minutes
Used a desktop computer
Used cassettes or cd’s and bought music at Wal Mart
While at Wal Mart purchased road atlas
Wrote paper checks and mailed bills / note payments in.
Used stamps
Went to post office
Read newspapers for sports info
Watched local tv news
Had to actually go to football games to watch LSU or listened to Hawthorne on the radio
Had to keep a flashlight handy
Used a key to crank our vehicles
Cruised town on a Friday night
Talked face to face to people
Visited more
Called hotels and made reservations
Bought movie tickets at the door

Just a few things that can all be done now with a smartphone

Do you know if he was really on the phone or just faking? If he was, do you know who he was talking to?

That would be pretty wild to be on the other end of that phone call while watching TV.

remember when making plans and sticking to them was a real and valuable thing. Now, it's non stop text messages changing this and that, and blah blah blah.

This, we would make plans to meet somewhere after school and everyone would be there.

Now you make plans over the phone, and plans change 30 minutes later sometimes less.
