re: What country could have beaten the US?

The US, like most empires, will only be destroyed from within, which we are slowly doing right now and for the last few decades.

With the geographical advantages we have, and the fact that nobody smothered the US in its crib as an infant, we will be a world superpower as long as superpowers exist.

If the Southern Hemisphere, looking at you South America, could ever get past their tribal bullshite and build a united front then they’d be formidable if only from a resource perspective. But since they insist on being a coalition of separate nations then they’re no threat.

It’s the US, China, and everybody else. At this point even Russia is not much more than a paper tiger.

America barely won revolution war

The South could have if we used guerrilla tactics and the lay of the land to our advantage.

Vietnam beat the US. Sure we killed way more of them then they did to us, but they successfully broke our will to fight and made Vietnam a Communist state.

At the height of their power, none of those countries could take on the U.S at its current state.

In fact even if you combine them all together they wouldn't have a chance.

How is a german luftwaffe supposed to compete with an f-14? How are napeleon's horses supposed to compete with our tanks? How are the british armies' one shot then reload rifled supposed to compete with our assault rifles?

Geography in both SA and Africa won’t allow this and the people are so used to blatant corruption they won’t tolerate a single, overarching government.
