Charlotte is absolutely on fire right now, fastest growing city in America. NC is heaven, beach, mountains, good wine, good climate (seasons).

Right now? Charlotte has seen consistency in growth over the past few decades. This is nothing new.

I don’t really see a lot of LSU alum in the Austin area

It really is lackluster for a city with a metro area of 2 plus million people less than 7 hours from BR.

I definitely agree with the Arkansas going way up

I have a kid that will be a junior in Collin County and Arkansas was the most popular choice for the graduating seniors at her school. Nobody’s getting into Texas and TX A&M is cracking down too. Fayetteville is only 4 1/2 hours from Plano.

They have a thing that they will offer up to 90% in in-state for TX kids based on GPA

I would love to see the year over year % of people aged 21-45 who leave Louisiana.....

I left and came back

Then left and came back again - don't plan on leaving again but who knows.

There’s definitely value in leaving and moving around a few times outside of the state. But I will incentivize my kids to finally settle down back here to raise their families.

This plus Fayetteville is an awesome college town in a very beautiful region of Arkansas. Blows Austin and college station out the water.

IMO, Fayetteville is a seriously underrated SEC town. Plus it’s a solid school overall in a growing state. So sticking around after college is an option as well. Texas is full so states like Arkansas retaining its college grads is huge. Wish Louisiana was able to.

Engineers can stay in New Orleans BR Northshore Lafayette Also lots of healthcare jobs here obviously other places have better business opportunities but we did gain minimal population last year. Maybe we are awakening from the JBE doldrums the LNG expansions Hyundai plant and the LIT terminal for Port Nola should help. Ochsner and LCMC are growing Tulane investing downtown Xavier is doing well and LSU is growing in BR. Not all Hope is lost but we have a big hole to dig out of

Charleston are popular spots for new grads

I doubt that seriously.

Daughter graduated from LSU December 2023, went to College of Charleston for her MBA. Loved it there, and was talking about staying but decided to come home. Should have her nice new marketing analyst job in Metairie finalized this week.

I don’t doubt that recent college grads might like Charleston, but there aren’t the same kind of jobs there as the cities people are actually moving to

Can’t speak on Nola Br or NS but engineering jobs are not plentiful in Lafayette. Know this from experience. There’s only so many of those jobs to go around even in BR/nola.

Healthcare really isn’t great. The pay is about half of what you can get in greater Houston with the COL not being much lower to justify.

I understand that pay in Louisiana will definitely be lower but the gap just isn’t enough to make sense. South Louisiana isn’t exactly the cheapest place to live so pay can’t be as low as it is.

It’s damn near impossible it seems to get in immediately off the bat. My kid qualified for UT and A&M’s “cap” program, which means you go to a handful of select schools your freshman year, then you’re guaranteed admission. However, you’re only guaranteed into college of liberal arts, and if you go into the cap, you can’t accept scholarship from those schools you enroll in.

My kid is in engineering. They went to UTSA (one of the cap schools for UT), took the scholarship for two years, and is now at LSU to finish out the final two. Guaranteed admission into liberal arts college wasn’t going to do my kid a bit of good.

It's a good school and all that matters is to get a degree, but they accept everyone. Its ranked 15th out of 16 in the SEC academically behind Miss St and 178th in the country.

It's very kids' backup school if they can't get in anywhere. It is a great area but everyone we know that went there is back in DFW for the job market, hence the tons of Arkansas stuff I see everywhere.

Not only do you have to get into Texas, but then if you want the business school, forget about it.

A family friend was top 2% at Allen High School and was accepted to Texas but not the business school.

They posted the top 10 seniors by rank in the paper out of class of 1800, and of the 10, 2 are going to Harvard, 1 MIT, 1 Yale, 1 Northwestern,1 Brown, and 4 Texas, including the valedictorian.

My guess as to what city ranking has most quantity of recent alumni are in:

1 - Baton Rouge
2 - New Orleans
3 - Houston
4 - Dallas (not too far behind Houston)
5 - Lafayette
6 - Shreveport
7 - Austin
8 - Atlanta

Other receiving votes: Lake Charles, Houma, Jackson, Mobile, San Antonio, Birmingham

That would be my guess.

Why yeesh?

I’ve lived all over the south, have business interests across the country - Baton Rouge proper is a great place to raise a family. I’m not saying they need to spend their entire life here, I’ve made sure they have experienced other areas and hope they continue to explore. But when it’s time to raise kids, they should move back.

Sorry you lived in prairieville?
