possibly one of the fugliest vehicles ever conceived.

Strange, it is fairly orthodox looking. Just a run of the mill SUV look.

I don’t need to tell myself anything. I’ve never cared what a car looks like. It’s just transportation to me. Your comment just seemed strange because the car is not unusual looking, as the picture you posted demonstrated.

You cared enough to comment lol.

It's an ugly car. Not that big of a deal.

I can’t argue with that. SUVs tend to be unattractive.

Good riddance. Worst transmissions to ever hit the highway.

Cars are one of those subjects where people often looking at the past with halcyon shades. They can reference the specific outliers and ignore all the rest of the data points. Modern cars, at least until the Covid era (as it's too soon to tell) are more reliable and last longer. Their power trains, core components, bodies, etc. are much more durable and reliable. They require less day to day maintenance (although repair is more difficult and complex). Cars from the 80s, once they got the hang of the new fuel standards, became much more reliable than the ones from the past eras. I'm sure that there were plenty of people in the mid-80s through the 90s talking shite incorrectly about those cars, the same way people who now cherish those same cars today treat the current models. The circle of life continues.

He said cars from 20 years ago, not 40+ years ago.
I can’t say for passenger cars, but pickup trucks reached their peak of reliability about 20 years ago and are now on the downhill slope of it.
I say that, not because they are my favorite models. I like 60’s muscle cars and pickup trucks from the 60-90’s. Today’s trucks are garbage.

2003 Silverado here

I regret selling my 04 Silverado. That Vortec engine was bulletproof.

It was getting a little long in the tooth, and I didn't feel like dealing with it. I should have just spent the time and money fixing it up instead of selling it.

Now, a module craps out and you might not be able to find a replacement (eg Jeep ABS module) and now you have an otherwise fine piece of lawn art.

Same with the Ram eTorque MGU module. Apparently they are eating bearings, and the backlog is months long. I've seen people posting about their 3 year old Ram that is now a brick because the MGU took a shite and the dealership can't find a replacement.

People have taken the issue into their own hands, and are purchasing the correct size bearings, and bringing their MGU to an alternator shop to replace the stock ones before there can be an issue.

The early 90's Taurus had a good chance of a crappy transmission. I think you wanted the Canadian sourced one. They would eat the planetary gear.

Late 90s was peak Taurus.
