The crushed cars were shipped to China to be melted down. The cheap used car market was replaced by new cheap foreign cars (Kia, etc). Seems like it isn’t a coincidence that foreign countries profited while working class Americans suffered.

It was great for Toyota, the Corolla and Camry were the two most popular car purchases

Thanks for boiling my bile again - back in the day I followed a few of the mechanics forced to kill some sweet rides in that program.

Try finding a 90's BMW 530i V8 with 5-speed today.

That’s back when they were still a truck and not some tricked out fancy passenger vehicle with something that passes for a truck bed that costs three times more.

You realize those cars are now over 21 years old? How many would still be in play in the market?

Probably a lot. Late 90's, early 2000's vehicles were some of the best, most durable ever produced in my opinion. And there's a ton of aftermarket support for them.

Think about how many early 2000's trucks you still see driving around on a daily basis.

My grandpa had a Taurus wagon that ran forever.
I wondered where all the Jeeps went too. In the early 00s box Cherokee were all over. I had a red one with a 5 speed that I used as a spillway toy. That 4.0 was a great engine.

As much nostalgia as I have for some 90s cars I recently drove a 95 silverado that had been restored pretty well and those 30 year old trucks really drive like shite compared to ones of today

Correct

That's why so many people drive big trucks today

And they were much less reliable

And none of that supports the terrible Cash for Clunkers policy or ignores the negative consequences of the shitty policy (before some retard tries)

I agree. I had a 2022 Ford van. Transmission out at 24,000.
My daily now is a near 20 year old lexus that I can work on myself.
Gonna keep it till the wheels fall off then but a 15 year old lexus.

Seeing these ‘Silverado’ post where people are bragging about making it to 100,000 miles without replacing a transmission is laughable. Two Tundras. Both well over 200,000k. Zero issues with most of those miles pulling a bass boat.

Idiots and their money.
