Many cities heavily restrict where they can set up so they are hardly ever in a convenient place. When they got popular in Athens, they were all over downtown and the brick and mortars got pissed and raised hell to city council and got them banned. Even the long-standing street vendors (JB's, and the hot dog man) even got the shaft. Due to public outcry, those two dudes were given grandfather clauses to continue their operations.

Just like a regular brick and mortar restaurant, some are great and some are awful. A restaurant owner that I know refers to them as the ‘minor leagues of the restaurant industry,’ which is pretty accurate.

Our HOA was bringing them in pretty regularly during quarantine. I liked them.

I wish they would bring them in on fridays. Makes it an easy night for dinner.

Some of the best Mexican food I've eaten came from food trucks in California.

They’re great. Unfortunately our Metro Council has tried to push through a bunch of shitty ordinances to limit them instead of, I dunno, doing shite that really matters.

There’s a few that set up just around the block from us (downtown of our municipality). Particularly at the brewery that doesn’t serve food. We occasionally walk over and get something if it’s a unique truck or a favorite of ours.

The local group here in Louisville also went down as a cohort through the Lee Initiative and fed folks in Western Kentucky after the tornados.

They're just like any other restaurant. Some are good. Some are shite. And when the hipster crowd discovers one they like, they ruin it by creating a line that takes up your entire hour long lunch break to get any food.

I really liked them when I worked downtown New Orleans. It was a convenient and quick lunch option.

They are convenient for walkable locations (or at places like breweries), but I'm not driving out of my way to go to one.

Food Trucks were all the rage here for a while, until the downtown restaurants said frick this shite and made the city shut it down. I'm sure they congregate somewhere, but it's not like it was. Every Thursday, there would be 15-20 trucks and live music, it was fun. BUT... there were weeks I didn't even get food because the lines were so long and the prices were stupid for Gourmet French Fries or whatever. I'm not buying $13 french fries for the kids.

The Mexican food that I've had in Oregon is completely different than what it seemed like I used to get pretty much anywhere in the South...and not in a good way.

Authentic or not, I just want ground beef in my tacos or burritos. That shredded beef is bland as Hell.

This allows the successful ones to eventually transition into being a brick & mortar.

I know very successful ones that have decided against brick-and-mortar or did go and went back to strictly food truck(s). One of the best ideas I've seen are localities that dedicate spaces for food trucks to gather that provide covered tables and seating or allowing the use of public parks/green spaces like what is done at Railroad Park in Birmingham.

Before covid and I was working in the CBD 5 days a week there were plenty of good food trucks within a few blocks of my office. Most of them were pretty good.

they're great when I'm a captive audience like at a brewery that doesn't serve their own food

any other time I probably wouldn't seek out $10 artisanal grilled cheese that takes at least 20 minutes

Nailed it.

Problems I tend to have are they can be way too expensive for what you're getting... and they can get really backed up and take a long time. Can find some really good food though, so sometimes worth the cost/wait.
