re: What are your thoughts about medical school? Any doctors on the O-T?

Do it. Med School is rough but suck it up for a few years and after you'll live the rest of your life like a king. My sister is an anesthesiologist and works 3 days a week and takes an exotic vacation ever other month.
Plus if you stay single you can bang hot young nurses til' you're like 65 years old.

I always hear this echoed by other physicians and medical students. We all can't be investment bankers.
What are the better options?
I think what they are really saying is if you don't have a passion for medicine it's really not worth the money. When you are a physician you don't get to pack up and go home after work. You're in school until you're 30 and most of the time on call for your whole career. If you want to go hunting on the weekends in the fall its hard to be a doctor. You can go sometimes, but you can't be there every weekend. Yeah you make a lot of money, but you also have to work a lot. Point being if you don't like what you are doing and just in it for the money it's not worth it.

Law school will put you in a position to have great job satisfaction and really help people.

How much does it cost and if you invest that money elsewhere what is the consistant result?

My dad has practiced for 30+ years. I think some of his best advice to my brother and I was for us to avoid law school.

Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing (going to med school)
If you are interested in the field by all means go to med school over PA school. My group currently pays 2x for MDs than for PAs or NP. Plus you don't have to have anyone as your "boss"

If you are really between being a MD vs PA or NP, check out the Rural track. You won't have as tough of a time in 3 or 4th year. Residency options are restricted to certain fields. However, rural does not equal BFE. Big areas like Orleans, Jefferson, and EBR are off limits as well as a few others. I think tuition is reduced or forgiven too. I likely have some of these details wrong, but it's something worth looking into if you are not set on a particular field.

Take the MCAT first. If you bomb it, then opt for the PA route. If you dont like dealing with sick patients directly, then "settle" for pharmacy.
Sick patients that are nice and appreciative is one thing, but theres many that are hateful and rude.

Go to med school and do EM. I love coming to work and I make more than most other docs in the hospital.

I would echo most of what has already been said.
1. I would do medical school all over again. No doubt.
2. Lots of great specialties with great pay. I do not know a psychiatrist who works more than 45 hrs a week or one that makes less than $200,000. Some even make 350,000.
3. I went in to medicine to help people. I trust my medical decisions so I do not want anyone to be "my boss".
Go to med school if you want to make the biggest impact.
Go to a mid level school if you just want a medical job and flexible time off.

I just refinanced my medical school debt (no undergrad debt) for 10 years. My monthly payment is currently more than my mortgage payment.
That said, I would consider doing it again. It is a long road but you are an expert in your specialty. Despite mid level provider encroachment into medicine across practically all non-surgical specialties, you are still the best in your field.

I appreciate the advice so far. I have the grades to be competitive applicant for MD, PA, and dental, but I'm trying to figure out what kind of lifestyle I want at the end of the day. I like the time off and less stress a PA has over the doc, but if you're doing a lot of the same work for 3x less pay over a period of 30 years, that's a lot less bacon to take home.
As far as other options, that's where I'm at a loss, because my degree in biology points heavily to higher education in the medical field. I guess I could always become an insurance salesman or car salesman

Im in second year at LSUNO. It is way worth it. It's tough but I love it.
Also, I have to say that everyone saying not to take a year(s) off are way off. They could not be more wrong about this.
