Do the people that have solar panels on their roof (looks awful) have any power right now?

Yes, my coworker has solar panels and Tesla storage batteries that run the house in the dark hours. The panels were expensive but the storage batteries were not.

Sell the boat and buy a natural gas or diesel generator. These gasoline generators are going to kill more people than Ida.

Convert your gasoline generator to natural gas. If you are halfway handy you can do it yourself. If not, get a pro to do it.

Gas stored in a sealed contained were it cannot make contact with the atmosphere will be usable indefinitely, as in many years, I have used gas 10 years old with no problem. Exposure to air allows the soluble butanes in gasoline to evaporate with reduces the energy contained in the gasoline. All my information is from the mouth of a Exxon chemist. Of course it in is in the best interest of those selling gas to let people assume it will go bad.

Non ethanol in a non plastic container... Yes.

Ethanol in a plastic container with our humidity... Nope.

Metal cans are cheap. Metal drums are usually free.

I think you have that backwards....solar panels are cheap. The LiFePo4 batteries are expensive.

I am told that getting it converted by a pro costs around $300 and the generator loses about 40% capacity when converted

There is a 26% decrease. For me, after the decrease, I can still power everything I need. Not having to do the gas can dance before, and especially after a hurricane is AWESOME!!!

My son’s neighbor has a 150 gal tank on a trailer. They bought 150 gal together right before the storm for the guy’s 16,000 watt generator.

Sounds like a NG standby would be a lot cheaper and easier

Go to a junk yard and buy a gas tank from a truck. So have fuel pumps in them to transfer the gas.

Amazon 14 gallon with hand nozzle

2 of these. Gravity operated so it has to be higher than what your filling. Just leave it back the truck

just want to add, make sure you spend a few more dollars and get a carbon monoxide detector. never run those generators without one. You would be amazed how it can get into your house.

I have a 55 gal steel drum with a hand pump. My local oil dist. will bring me a full one ,I just have to give a one week lead time.

This is what I plan to do in the future. Buy it before hurricane season and burn it in my vehicles after the season.

that's pretty much what i do, but with about 15 gallons of gas.
I plan on buying a 55 gallon drum and just using that instead. would obviously have enough to go the summer cutting grass, etc, and could top it off before a hurricane comes. I'd have about 6 full days of gas running the generator about 18-20 hours a day.

the better solution is to find a small diesel generator. Diesel has been available this whole time, and it's probably the most reliable generator, but it probably isnt' easy finding a small one, under 10kW.

No need to store the fuel, but need containers(cans, drums, boat) anything that will hold 40-50 gallons. When storm enters gulf fill everything up including vehicles. If your fortunate and storm goes elsewhere use fuel in whatever and rinse and repeat next time.

Funny you mention it. my garage CO detector wen off about an hour ago. I guess the wind shifted or something. Had to move the CO detector to the back porch.

Keddding. Shifted the generator a little and took care of it right away.
