Will you make another post when Ryan Williams ends up at LSU?

re: How often do you gap your bag?

I'm playing Callaway BB irons from 2002 and Vokey SM8 wedges. All standard lofts (46 PW). I had switched to Takomo 101s for a while, but ended up giving those to my son and went back to my Callaway`s. I don't know why but I've always hit these irons better than any other I've played.

I'm noticing it mostly in my KD shots. I also notice the change is not even across the clubs, the shorter the club, the more gain. I'm thinking I'm doing a better job delofting the club at impact. My launch angle for my wedges are all hanging around at 30 to 32 degrees which is slightly high but good enough. My spin is staying relatively consistent around 6500 RPM though it can dip on off center hits. These are all 3/4 9oclock swings.
Ed's ex broke him. His last season he was mailing it in.

I don't think he will be a good coach again until he is stable, too much chasing tail.
This is what I was scared of. I'm watching the launch angles pretty close. I have yet to go backwards though, the range just grows a little.

How often do you gap your bag?

I'm constantly practicing lately trying to get down to low single digits from 8-10 and it seems my distances are different every few weeks. I'm obviously thrilled with any gains, but it will throw a round off fast. Maybe this index range is when you experience the most swing improvements the quickest?

I'll do a bag mapping, and it will hold up for 2-3 weeks, then boom all my scoring clubs are 7-10 yards longer and it ruins a round. No complaints. It doesn't hit my long irons or fairway woods as hard. I do see gains there but usually only a couple yards so its negligible. I'll go map them again I'm ok for a bit.

I guess the lack of consistency can be slightly frustrating, but definitely a first world problem.

Just trying to see if this a common occurrence

re: Steep vs Sweep chipping

toe down chipping seems to work best with most lies. It's a steep swing since you can't sweep with the toe down. The ball will come out more dead, so I've learned to release the club at impact. If I want spin, i hold the face and don't let my hands roll over, opposite for no spin.
No want wants to watch Bama put up 60 on a hapless LSU other than Alabama fans. This should be 11:30 SECN+ game
The Ag fans at the game were awesome, they always are though. The ones that took over the student section even did the T I G E RS cheer when LSU scored the late touchdown. I bet they would have sang neck if the band played it ??

If O wouldn’t have fell apart at the seams he would still be here. He got lazy and complacent after 2019, then the wife situation really screwed him up. He had girlfriends showing up at practice, recruiting dropped off a cliff.
1. Learn to play your miss.
When planning your approach, aim in a place where if you miss, you will still be able to get up/down. My swing is a natural fade so I typically aim at the left side of the green, if I hit it straight I'll either be on the edge or right off, but if I miss, I'll fade it right at the pin. Good way to be happy about a miss

2. Play to the back or middle of the green instead of pin distance. If its a front pin, use the middle of the green yardage, if its middle, use back. The only time you should be worried about pin distance is when you have a setup to attack the pin, ie.. good pin location with 50 yards in or something like that.

3. Don't use driver every hole, use 3W, 5W, Hybrid when it makes sense. Nothing funnier than watching someone try to drive the green on a short par 4 and their ball sail 50 yards OB. Just hit a 5W and leave yourself 50 yards in.

4. Work on consistency inside 100 yds. Learn to play half strength / 9'oclock / flighted shots. Outside of putting, this was by the far the biggest place I shaved strokes. I figured out a 9oclock swing for 9i, PW, 50, 54, 58 and documented their carry distances. I know my gapping starting at 55 yards all the way to my first full shot at 110. Anything under 55, is a short game shot. This type of shot is WAY more consistent with much tighter dispersion. I can pin hunt when in these ranges because of this shot.
Played yesterday with my son. It was my first time ever playing there. Will definitely be back.

Course was in fantastic shape. Greens are probably the best I've played around the Baton Rouge area. Soft, receptive, pristine. My son actually had a couple shots spin back on the green.

The only downside was our short game was slightly off because of typically having to account for way more roll out. Kept leaving everything way short. Probably left 4-5 strokes out there because of that and had 37 putts :banghead:

Big props to the Supe and the grounds crew. My son said it was his favorite course we've played recently, and we played TPC Louisiana on Sunday.

So finally got the prolaunch shaft in and was able to hit it on the sim and at the range. I definitely see a difference. It feels so good on a pure strike.

Its wrong for my driver head though (Sim2 Max 9 deg) as I'm producing way too much spin (3500-4500) which is causing my ball to balloon. I need to borrow my sons QI10 LS 9 to see what it does on a low spin head. I had a few 85' in the air which is pretty damn high. The launch angle was also around 17 which is a tad high. I rather stay somewhere between 13-15.

It's a Blue Prolaunch 45g L flex which is a high launch shaft. The Evenflow is a mid-low launch. It's a bit whippy being an L flex. I might also look at tipping it 1" after I test the LS head.

Also next ball I'm trying is the Bridgestone Tour B RXS. A little more expensive than I'd like but it's a 3-piece urethane ball at about 75 compression.

I tried again with the Triad, but I spray it too much, still the best around the green though.

This has been discussed but just to clarify:

LIV also does not allow Grant to film content during tournament rounds which is the crux of the issue as I understand it.

Grant wasn’t going to be allowed to bring his YouTube camera crew inside the ropes during the tournament. That wouldn’t be allowed by any professional sport on earth.

PGA has allowed both George and Wes Bryan (before his suspension) to do this multiple times. It's only 1 person outside the ropes filming.

I'm assuming they did this because of his participation in the Duels videos with LIV golfers.

Srixon Q star tour

This is my new front runner. I played BC last Sat morning with the Qstar and had my best round I can remember there.

Was very straight off the tee and greenside spin was there to the point it took me a few holes to get used to. I was checking the ball up instead of releasing and leaving long puts.

Also tried the Evenflow Riptide CB in 50G A Flex. Didn't really notice any major differences. I hit it straight and roughly the same distance. I think I was 14/18 Fairways hit so the accuracy at least was there.

Golfworks hasn't shipped my prolaunch yet so haven't been able to test that one.
Woods - Ping or TM

Irons - Srixion or Mizuno

which shaft did you buy? I'll post again after I test with them to see if I actually gain anything from them.

What do you do for swing speed/distance? I'd go with the more accurate ball & consider beefing up your speed/flexibility routine. And 240 is no slouch especially at 50+

It's 100% a flexibility issue at this point. Not as flexible as I used to be. I have been trying to force myself to stretch every morning and especially on days I know I'll be playing. I also have dealt with Tennis elbow in my lead arm for the past 5-6 months so that can affect it as well if it's flaring up.

I can't seem to turn my shoulders farther enough on my back swing anymore even if I lock out my trail leg which in and of it itself feels wrong. I can still produce more speed if I "jump off the ground" but that tends to be an uncontrollable swing.

I think the Zstar is a 100 compression which would put it close to the ProV1 which is too hard for my swing speed.

The Qstar Tour looks good though 3 piece with 70 compression. May have to add that one to the list.

Thanks!

Mid Range Golf Balls

I'm sharing this in case anyone else is interested and also looking for feedback.

I'm a 50+ yr old golfer at a ~10 index with a driver swing speed of ~85-90 mph. My average driver carry is 220 with a 240 avg total. I started testing various mid-range golf balls all priced between $25 - $45 to find the best for me. I tried to stay at a compression rating between 70 & 80 and under $45.00. I have a simulator at home so I can see numbers that way and also test on the course.

These are the ones I've tested so far

Taylormade Tour Response - $42
Bridgestone E12 - $35
Callaway ERC Soft - $40
Wilson Triad - $40
Maxfli Tour S - $40

After testing all these balls on the sim and playing at least 3 rounds with each, I'm currently torn between the ERC and Triad.

The ERC is the longest off the tee by about 5 yards. It also produces slightly more greenside spin. '

The Triad seems to be by far the most accurate. My GIR goes up above 40% when I play this ball. Not quite as long off the tee. It also feels the best with putting. It seems to roll the truest.

Any feedback? Any others I should try?

SideNote: I'm also about to start testing the "Otto" flex which is finding driver shafts that emulate the autoflex without autoflex pricing.

I orderd an Evenflow Riptide CB 50G Senior flex and a Gallafoy Prolaunch Blue 45g in Ladies flex. Both of these are suposedly very close in performance to the Autoflex. I will try them as it and if necessary, tip them to stiffen them up slightly. They are both releatively cheap and at this point, I'll try anything to pick up 15-20 yds off the tee.

I second Santa Maria or Golftec. Jacob at Golftec is great. At SM, I hear good things about BJ.

Schneider tries to change everyone’s swing to mimic his or other pros. Very long process. I wouldn’t go there unless you were looking for a complete overhaul
