The eagle on 8 had to have you lit. Take it you holed out your approach?

Does this happen to anyone else?

This is totally a vent, first world problem, post...

It seems I always have to end a round early when I'm on pace for a really low / best score. It's like some type of karma. 3x this year I've been on pace for a really low if not my lowest round and get pulled off the course by either a work emergency, pick a kid up from school, etc.

Happened today. Had to vent. Was +1 thru 12 and had to shut it down.

re: Takomo Irons

Maltby offers WAY more customization options than Takomo, way more shafts/grips, etc..

Go to the custom shop , then irons, then pick what you want. Also if you call them, they are pretty great that route as well.

I would actually go to Dicks and get an iron fitting just to see if you need loft/lie angle changes or if you need standard length. It's under $100 and well worth it. Will probably tell you what shaft you should get as well.

ETA: I saw your other post. The size difference between the 101 and the 101T are TINY. The 101T are smaller, but barely smaller. The main diference is the loft changes. The 101T are closer to old school standard lofts while the 101s are jacked lofts like the P790s.
I saw it on here in an earlier thread AB’s brought it back to the front page

LSU fans love talking shite and having shite talked at them. It’s why Kiffin is a great fit for this fanbase. We will eat that up.
It’s too funny not to.
Jam Miller would have definitely had them in 2nd ??

re: Takomo Irons

I would recommend Maltby over Takomo. I have 101s that I played for a season. They are fine irons, nothing special. A little hot of the face at times but I think that's all hollow body. Also, the Takomo's are truly hollow, no foam filled like TaylorMade.

Maltby are every bit as forgiving with a forged iron and roughly in the same price range. Maltby is widely considered on of the best club designers int eh business. He's designed irons for all the major brands as well as the new Maxfli irons for Dicks.

You can find quite a few different ones on Golfworks. I would recommend the TS3.

Didn't that have something to do with Saban's daughter?

Will you make another post when Ryan Williams ends up at LSU?

re: How often do you gap your bag?

I'm playing Callaway BB irons from 2002 and Vokey SM8 wedges. All standard lofts (46 PW). I had switched to Takomo 101s for a while, but ended up giving those to my son and went back to my Callaway`s. I don't know why but I've always hit these irons better than any other I've played.

I'm noticing it mostly in my KD shots. I also notice the change is not even across the clubs, the shorter the club, the more gain. I'm thinking I'm doing a better job delofting the club at impact. My launch angle for my wedges are all hanging around at 30 to 32 degrees which is slightly high but good enough. My spin is staying relatively consistent around 6500 RPM though it can dip on off center hits. These are all 3/4 9oclock swings.
Ed's ex broke him. His last season he was mailing it in.

I don't think he will be a good coach again until he is stable, too much chasing tail.
This is what I was scared of. I'm watching the launch angles pretty close. I have yet to go backwards though, the range just grows a little.

How often do you gap your bag?

Posted by LSUStjames on 11/19/25 at 12:49 pm
I'm constantly practicing lately trying to get down to low single digits from 8-10 and it seems my distances are different every few weeks. I'm obviously thrilled with any gains, but it will throw a round off fast. Maybe this index range is when you experience the most swing improvements the quickest?

I'll do a bag mapping, and it will hold up for 2-3 weeks, then boom all my scoring clubs are 7-10 yards longer and it ruins a round. No complaints. It doesn't hit my long irons or fairway woods as hard. I do see gains there but usually only a couple yards so its negligible. I'll go map them again I'm ok for a bit.

I guess the lack of consistency can be slightly frustrating, but definitely a first world problem.

Just trying to see if this a common occurrence

re: Steep vs Sweep chipping

Posted by LSUStjames on 11/4/25 at 9:52 am to
toe down chipping seems to work best with most lies. It's a steep swing since you can't sweep with the toe down. The ball will come out more dead, so I've learned to release the club at impact. If I want spin, i hold the face and don't let my hands roll over, opposite for no spin.
No want wants to watch Bama put up 60 on a hapless LSU other than Alabama fans. This should be 11:30 SECN+ game
The Ag fans at the game were awesome, they always are though. The ones that took over the student section even did the T I G E RS cheer when LSU scored the late touchdown. I bet they would have sang neck if the band played it ??

If O wouldn’t have fell apart at the seams he would still be here. He got lazy and complacent after 2019, then the wife situation really screwed him up. He had girlfriends showing up at practice, recruiting dropped off a cliff.
1. Learn to play your miss.
When planning your approach, aim in a place where if you miss, you will still be able to get up/down. My swing is a natural fade so I typically aim at the left side of the green, if I hit it straight I'll either be on the edge or right off, but if I miss, I'll fade it right at the pin. Good way to be happy about a miss

2. Play to the back or middle of the green instead of pin distance. If its a front pin, use the middle of the green yardage, if its middle, use back. The only time you should be worried about pin distance is when you have a setup to attack the pin, ie.. good pin location with 50 yards in or something like that.

3. Don't use driver every hole, use 3W, 5W, Hybrid when it makes sense. Nothing funnier than watching someone try to drive the green on a short par 4 and their ball sail 50 yards OB. Just hit a 5W and leave yourself 50 yards in.

4. Work on consistency inside 100 yds. Learn to play half strength / 9'oclock / flighted shots. Outside of putting, this was by the far the biggest place I shaved strokes. I figured out a 9oclock swing for 9i, PW, 50, 54, 58 and documented their carry distances. I know my gapping starting at 55 yards all the way to my first full shot at 110. Anything under 55, is a short game shot. This type of shot is WAY more consistent with much tighter dispersion. I can pin hunt when in these ranges because of this shot.
Played yesterday with my son. It was my first time ever playing there. Will definitely be back.

Course was in fantastic shape. Greens are probably the best I've played around the Baton Rouge area. Soft, receptive, pristine. My son actually had a couple shots spin back on the green.

The only downside was our short game was slightly off because of typically having to account for way more roll out. Kept leaving everything way short. Probably left 4-5 strokes out there because of that and had 37 putts :banghead:

Big props to the Supe and the grounds crew. My son said it was his favorite course we've played recently, and we played TPC Louisiana on Sunday.
