.What are the most popular coastal towns in Louisiana?

Another thread prompted me to wonder about this. Thinking about it, I never hear much about Louisiana beaches. Why is that? Louisiana has more coastline than Alabama so I'd guess there are some towns as nice as Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. Not that either of those towns are glitzy or anything, because they aren't, but nice to visit.

The Louisiana coast isn’t exactly livable like the Mississippi or Alabama coasts. It’s all covered in wetlands.

There is a reason everyone from Louisiana goes to Gulf Shores and Florida beaches all the time. Louisiana doesn’t have beaches like that. Our coastal towns are more fishing towns.

now that you mention it, my wife and I thought we might like to buy a place at Dauphin Island, but besides the fact you get a lot of erosion due to it being a barrier island, there are those oil rigs. It's a petty thing I guess, but I don't want to be looking out at oil rigs.

Louisiana really got screwed.
Just in case anybody is as clueless about LA as me, the Chamber of Commerce or whoever named it was a bit ambitious with the name Holly "Beach".

Because of the silt that exits the Mississippi River at the gulf outlet the water along the Louisiana and Mississippi coast is dark and muddy. It doesn't clear up until you get around the gulf shores area, which is why those areas do more when it comes to upkeep on the beaches and tourism.

Look at a map much? Louisiana might have lots of gulf front property but it’s not exactly the kind you want to vacation on.
