Kids thinking of ways to include my deceased brother into Christmas. Kids can be amazing sometimes.

Twenty-nine years ago on this day, my dad just didn't wake up. No warning. No illness. Nothing. He was just suddenly gone. So, today isn't one of my favorite days of the year. You, however, have broken me out of my funk with this tale. Thanks so much for that.
This part especially-
My wife and I are 54 and have no children, so I can't relate to this part from your perspective, but I CAN relate to it from your daughter's perspective. All my friends from my early youth through my college days thought I had the coolest, wisest, most approachable dad. Nothing made me more proud than to know that my friends thought as much of my dad as I did. Trust me, that's exactly the feeling your daughter has in that regard.
Now - I sure do wish I could have been there to hear that off-the-cuff story with a snot tornado and Santa delivering farts to Ohio! I think I would have felt like a ten-year-old again with that one!
Merry Christmas to you and all yours!

Did you tell the old bull/young bull on a hill with cows in the valley joke?

Excellent post. Merry Christmas!

There once was a man, Freemanator
Who thought he’d get stuck working later
He put the kids first
Left the job with a burst
And now his kids think no one’s greater.

Merry Christmas to you too, and thanks for the story. You made your kid's day.
We sure do have a lot of joyless turds around here that show up to knock somebody down.

when I tell you he beamed and said “Dad! I knew you’d come!”…baws, you can’t buy that feeling.
Quite possibly the best feeling you can have as a father.

Thanks for sharing that Fr33. I don’t post much and my kids are grown (not quite off the payroll) and out of the house, but I can tell you it’s those moments with my kids that I’ll cherish forever.

Was shopping for my wife, no pics, she is under the weather. Pass a father with two boys in tow. One pushing the cart, teenager, the other dragging dad around while he is trying to shop. We pass a few times, and get to the end of the aisle and the father is telling the young un to pick out his pop tarts. He finally chooses and turns around and throws it into my cart. Looks at me and realizes I'm not his brother. Father apologizes, and I say no problem, and crack a smile.

Seeing my 4 month old grandson put on a big smile and giggle when I visit makes me feel great.

Should’ve told the 5th graders the story of the home wrecker and the nurse.

I know how that empty space feels. And how it makes it hard to find the cheer. E-hug.
Email me if you don’t mind. I’ve got something written about this I think you’ll appreciate

Nothing like setting your kids up for disappointment in order to make yourself look better in their eyes
