We usually park deep in the Marigny and walk in. Grab food by the mint. I also have never really had a problem getting food at the places I like in Jackson Square (Crawfish Crepes) and can always get a decent places to stand for the stages at the riverfront.

If you want to stake a spot, people do that as well.
Ten+ years ago was the time to go. It was not as popular , hell I think the Strawberry Fest was the bigger draw that week. (always same time every year both fests)
Still for great music and good food, it's a must do. I skip Jazz Fest, that's the one that got too big IMO.

Try going Friday during the day since a lot of ppl will be at work/school. Avoid Saturday at all costs.

Forget Friday, go Thursday or late Sunday afternoon after all the out of towners have checked out and left town.

It's overcommercialized these days. Used to be a nice quaint festival.

I know this line is overused regarding festivals, but in this case I completely agree

For all you people complaining about parking, park down Canal or St. Charles and catch the streetcar/bus or ride a bicycle

The streetcars have been stupid crowded the past two years for FQF. Plus the St. Charles line currently has two bus/streetcar transfers. Talk about a headache. A bike is the only way I go downtown for festivals like this anymore.

balls to the walls crowded throughout the quarter

huh? like Bourbon St? Jackson Sq? The Mint?

It's not overly crowded anywhere but Woldenburg Park. Which is very dark & rude.

Very crowded at the Park. I'd stay away from there.

Overall, Festival is a good time to be in the Quarter. A good time with good food and music.

It's gotten to be REALLY REALLY crowded the past few years.

I will agree with this, but if you walk along the streetcar rail you can pass through pretty quickly.

Also, anyone going Saturday that wants to get absolutely hammered come meet me at Jax. Non-stop partying from 11am-2am. It starts getting real busy around 3-4. I usually check out all the booths and head over there around that time. Heady will probably be there of course.

If they'd charge $5 admission it would be so much better. Four three hundred pounders side by side pushing strollers while double fisting Corkys BBQ is the norm in da park.

So charge to get into certain areas? That would thin out the crowds inside those place but cause cluster fricks outside them.

Yes people would rather be miserable for 2 hours than wait ten minutes to get in.
