It’s depends on how you want to judge schools. If it’s strictly academics, then there are a handful of really good academic schools in BR - BRHS, Episcopal, CHS and St. Joseph’s.

But with BRHS you are only getting academics, the other three offer a lot more in terms of totally development.

I'm not from Nola but I live here now, and I've honestly never seen a major metropolitan area spend as much time and energy talking about high schools as this one

I'm 30 and in a group of childless young professionals my age, local high school debates can go on for hours.

very weird.

If someone from NOLA asks where you went to school, they mean high school not college. Facts.

Its social conditioning. People want to prove how smart they/their kids are by which school they go to.

It rarely matters in the end. Unless you literally want to go to Harvard or someplace similar, it won't have much impact. I've seen people who go to private schools that dont really accomplish much (or not more than what average joe could have done.)

Only can speak to the area I'm familiar with.

Caddo Parish- Caddo Magnet but a lack of sports and other things leave a bit to be desired for the overall high school experience. So I'm putting Byrd in the top spot.

Bossier Parish- Parkway because being the school for most Barksdale AFB kids give the school a little more positive attitude, and since there's no magnet program in Bossier City it attracts more top students.

It is a great school, but it only goes up to 7th grade. Very good with academics, sports, and discipline.

Correct. If your methodology is most use of donations to pay off priest sexual abuse claims.

The problem at Jesuit is it is schools within a school. If you are elite academically or athletically you have an entirely different experience than if you are Joe Average

I know a lot of people who went to jesuit and they seem fine or whatever but when I have kids, I don't want my kids to grow up to be anything like them.

I feel the same about newmann but thankfully that problem should take care of itself (I am not a rich jewish person)

Newman has not been a Jewish school for some time. I would estimate it at maybe ten percent these days.

Ben Franklin

My wife went to Franklin. She described the academic pressure as overwhelming then. I imagine it's even worse now. Most kids in Louisiana take Spanish or French as a foreign language, if they take one at all. She took Russian.

Me: "hey look, Franklin is in the football playoffs."

Her: "Franklin has a football team?"

a lot of them come off like fart-sniffers with little personality or perspective, since they live their entire lives in that cocoon of nola socialites

like I said they're harmless, they pay their taxes and can be friendly. I'm grinding a very small, pedantic axe here
